Discussion: Report: McConnell Shot Down Trump's Proposal To Abolish Electoral College

WTF? It was the electoral college that slid Cheeto Donnie into office?

I’m pretty sure this would require a Constitutional amendment. I don’t see that as something that’s possible, even if McConnell wanted it.

Which, of course, he doesn’t. They’d never win the White House again.

“Trump demurred, according to the report.”

Rolled over and presented his haunches to Mitch, did he?

So much for being a “real leader” and “winning” at humiliate-and-dominate politics, loser.

Sad!

McConnell knows that the EC helps the South wield disproportionate power and would prevent GOP presidential victories in the future. The EC and gerrymandering are the two keys to GOP power.

I guess Donald didn’t get the memo. The GOP is opposed to any sort of free and fair popular election at all levels of the government (see 17th Amendment repeal movement and extreme gerrymandering).

They didn’t want to explain to Benito Cheeto that he’s not a dictator.

This would have been the same meeting in which Trump reportedly brought up, again, his baseless belief that millions of “illegal” votes lost him a popular vote victory.

Surely, he also brought up, again, his baseless belief that his inauguration crowd was larger than Obama’s, amirite!

When will T-Rump sign an Executive Order dictating a national popular vote?

That would require a Constitutional amendment. It’s not something he and McConnell can hammer out.

Now we know that he truly believes that if it was a popular vote, he could have campaigned solely in California, Texas, NY, Florida, and won the elections.

I was wondering if whether he actually believes his BS, and this truly clarifies it.

That being said, if he actually pushes this through, he may end up being the best President the Dems, and all decent minded people, could have ever hoped for. If he abolishes the electoral college for a popular vote for President, he should be enshrined as one of the greatest Presidents of all time.

Is this a joke? :joy:
As things now stand, the Republicans would never win another national election without the electoral college and their solid red wall of states replete with bigots, racists and hatemongers.

Post turtle Yertle McConnell must have pulled a muscle laughing at anyone making such a suggestion.

The electoral college is to democracy as Liberty University is to higher learning.

Or, obviously, Trump University!

I have to admit, today was remarkably tame, especially relative to the first 6 days, so I can’t claim being right about the prediction of reaching full-on shitshow by today. We’ll have to see what he comes up with this weekend.

I like to refer to it as having given Trump a “participation trophy” because it pisses the Teatrolls off no end to have their “participation trophy” insults towards liberals turned on them in that way.

He was distracted by the need to show a forced decorum toward the leader of another country …

A woman… no less ----

There’s no need for a Constitutional amendment, if enough states agree to the National Popular Vote Compact.

That said, McConnell would never go for such a plan: the Electoral College has demonstrated its usefulness to the GOP: first with Bush 43, and now with Trump.

Hmm. I really hope that’s not a harbinger.
