This is exactly what I heard in 2007 and 2011, that the Republicans were going to totally dominate because Democrats are scared, won’t punch, etc. And then we won the presidency and picked up a bunch of seats we had no business even thinking about.
One of my oldest hopes is the the ability to amend bills of any kind with unrelated issues or spending be outlawed. The nitwit who approved the sale of Confederate anything at a National Park should have been fired.
Time to do away with the Senate. Give me unicamerality! The sparsely populated or small population states, on the whole, contribute little to GNP but contribute greatly to policy problems. This and mandating that electoral districts be determined by a computer program are pretty much the only thing that will end gridlock and, in the long run, save our democracy.
I get a feeling that things aren’t the same now as in 2007 and not even as in 2011. In 2007, it was vote out the party because we were in a disasterous recession propagated by the GOP.
In 2011, it was Mitt pretty much and his 47% statement.
In 2014, the Dems got their hats handed to them in the mid-terms. The re-districting programs haven’t changed, so I don’t see the House changing hands. If we accept that most of the incumbents will run unopposed because campaign financing eliminates challengers, then even more so the House doesn’t change.
We need strong Democratic candidates. not wimps, running for office at all levels - not just limited to the Federal, but including States for Governor and legislatures.
Where are the people that would do that?
Don’t know. The Democrats surrendered on messaging in general 30 years ago and haven’t tried to reclaim it since.
The Democrats have had enough of the GOP
If they are so proud of their heritage, can’t we suggest this pic be put on the back of any confederate flag produced.
We’re in a far better position now than we were in 2011. The president has many wins on which HRC can run. And let’s face it, not having a person of color at the top of the ticket will undoubtedly lure some of those Democrats and moderate Republicans who were never going to vote for a black man.
No, it wasn’t. The election never changed, the polling never really moved. Mitt dropped off some after his 47% statement and then gained it back after the first debate, but it never really changed. That was something the Obama tea talked about in depth after the election.
And I really wish Democrats would stop with this GOP bullshit that Obama somehow didn’t really win either campaign, that Republicans were just so awful that he won by default. It’s completely disrespectful to the masterful campaigns Team OFA ran both times.
State’s right is one thing, but when you take an oath of office to preserve the constitution of this nation - you have to renounce all allegiance to all enemies. In this case, Republicans are still sticking to their slave owner roots. Can they be sent to jail for lying under oath?
Redistricting won’t happen until 2020. That’s a given and we’ll work with it.
The midterms are the midterms; we always get our asses handed to us at that time. For a variety of reasons, not least of which in some cases, the Dems ran wimps. In others, the voters were fucking idiots.
Look, I’m no fan of Schultz but the DNC has to run candidates particular to the states they’re running in. Sometimes it works; sometimes it’s an abject failure (yep, I’m looking at Martha fucking Coakley). It really depends on the State at hand. Some states have a really good Dem bench; with others, no.
EDIT TO ADD: I agree that recruitment needs to be stepped up at ALL levels of the gov’t. but it really depends on the individual State.
Who would have guessed?
Poe’s law strikes again! Carefully examine the last line of the comment for hints.
You done had a baby Scarlett, you ain’t never gonna have an 18 inch waist again!

Confederate flag to be removed from South Carolina capitol

They know what they want to do, so they pulled it back to figure out some way to spin their actions. I’m sure somebody in the Clown Car can come up with the appropriate BS which they will distribute liberally (no pun intended) and they motor along their racist highway to hell.
Well, next hurricane that hits the east coast will certainly be because of that.
I can’t find it, but there is a famous quote to the effect of “don’t extend any help when your enemy is already engaged in digging his own hole”. Help with this anyone?
Can’t wait to see who shows up at the GOP debates sporting a confederate flag pin.
Oh my god, that is perfect.
All it’ll take is one of them to do it, and they’ll ALL have to do it.
PLEEEEEEEEASE DONALD.
I think you know.
