Well, we have a White House unseen… ever. And a major national party off the deep end dividing the country in a way not seen in 150 years. So I wouldn’t rule anything out.
Bernie’s support of a mayoral candidate Jane Kim is seen to be helping her become the favorite over a black female city official with a rags to riches background and a gay man with a career in politics and the story of his partner lost to AIDS.
@ymr049c The White House is vacant both literally and figuratively.
doG ! …
I just can’t WAIT for November ! ! … I’m so FRIGGIN Excited ! ! …
That’s when I’ll get to find out if Newt finally gets Geller Grindelwald ! ! —
I’m hopeful that we will take back at least one chamber. That will at least staunch the bleeding and keep the Republicans and Trump from advancing any more of their agenda in Congress. If we win the Senate, we can keep Trump from loading up the Courts with his insanely unqualified and ideological judges and, if anybody on SCOTUS dies or retires, we can implement the “McConnell Rule” until after the 2020 elections.
Then make the wave happen. Considering how people have been winning elections in deep red districts and the GOP’s popularity has been sliding it’s clearly doable.
Mr Li also stated that, based on other half assed assumptions:
MisterEd would be resurrected as the most popular show on television (a talking horse? That’s HYSTERICAL!).
and, In fashions for 2020, predictions are that hemlines will either go up or come down.
And they comprise 5 million potential new voters in the mid-terms with one objective in mind: VOTE THEM OUT.
Since the majority of NRA blood money flows to Republicans… QED.
That’s it, I’m done for now…starting to feel depressed. Yes We Can Do Something Unseen In 40 Years is a little too much for me today.
Time for a break.
That’s usually been true, but we live in different times in which despite a good economy the president still has historically low approval ratings. The party in power does too. They’re just not getting the kind of boost any administration and party would normally enjoy because these are not normal times.
There’s also almost zero chance that over the next six months we won’t see more chaos, division, embarrassment, and general insanity from the WH, and the Republicans in control will continue to do nothing about it. There will also be more Mueller news, firings, and probably women coming forward with tawdry stories of affairs or abuse.
Beyond all that, and more importantly, the GOP is signaling that they plan to double down on culture wars. It doesn’t look as though even they want to run in the economy. I suspect that will produce even more anger and division and further push the economy to the back burner. We may still fall in the end, but I doubt this election will hinge on the economy anymore than the last one did, or we’d be talking about President Clinton’s effect on the midterms.
Here’s my 2 cents. I think I would rather we get some feedback like this so that we don’t become overconfident. News that will make us rally for the challenge, even more than the crap out of the Offal Office. HOWEVER…being Democrats…we can’t let it discourage us.
It’s a fine line our party always seems to walk.
ALSO…we need to make sure we don’t allow spoilers from erstwhile third parties or “pure” progressives. I remember the lefties who thought Hillary would win, but wanted to register their displeasure in moderate Dem policies…so voted for Stein or didn’t vote, in protest.
I feel REALLY good about November, though. I really do, but I am not against being reminded that it is NOT in the bag.
The trade war is going to hit farmers pretty hard…
A few weeks back, I was out at the Houston Rodeo (not necessarily a bastion of Democrats) and heard a lot of grumbling from cattlemen and others in the ag business about how clueless Trump was being with regards to trade – from NAFTA to tariffs.
Great news! Hope we can make this the Repub’s last round-up for a least a little while.
Here’s a Dem wave unseen in 40 years:

99% of NRA money consistently goes to Rs. Charts and graphs show what it looks like. NRA money to Rs peaked in 2000, and so far this year they’re getting the bulk of it at $327.8K and Dems getting $7,000.

There’s a fine line between being hopeful enough to participate and remain engaged and realistic enough to know that the best laid plans (and polls) often go astray.
You can hear that same talk here in wheat/corn country in Kansas. In fact, Ron Estes, asked to respond to the news that Trump had chosen Mike Pompeo (the guy Estes replaced in Congress) to be Sec. of State, said that Pompeo was a good choice because he would understand the importance of international trade to Kansas agriculture. A kind of bank-shot criticism of Trump’s ignorance and/or indifference to agriculture, and from a guy who in his letters to constituents blows the Trump trumpet as hard as anyone else.
Git er done…
Thanks for the stats…of course, I knew in my heart what the reality was. Knowing this, I was disappointed to hear the “this is not a Democrat OR Republican” thing on Saturday during the march speeches. I think the kids were trying to be inclusive, but it did rankle a bit.
No matter what happens, the right wing and much of the media will say Democrats failed to pull off a “wave” in 2018, but 2020 is where it’s going to be at as we build on the 2018 success and almost assuredly flip the Senate and hopefully, take the white house. All that matters is we make progress, slow or fast, as long as we keep registering, fighting for free and fair elections and winning those small and occasional bit seats. I think 2018 is going to be huge and 2020 is going to be the wake up call to the conservatives and the political press.
