Completely OT, but the reference to Russian hunting leads me to reference a great book about the topic: The Tiger: A True Story of Vengeance and Survival (Vaillant, 2011). A bit harrowing in places, but you get a real idea of what living in the Soviet Far East among Siberian Tigers is like.

PS–A Fun Fact: One of the schools where I worked in Alaska had the Siberian Snow Tiger as the school mascot.

It’s a cancer that needs to be excised for sure. If there’s any justice left in this country, the procedure will be terminal for the Republican party.

I think Democrats need to spend some time looking inward at themselves here too, as some them curry favor from the NRA as well.

I’m looking at you, Manchin…

One of the most consistent parts of Butina’s story is that this is not how a grad student acts, dresses or travels. I’ve known a lot of grad students, including ones who had stipends, and just no.

I remember Drew’s writing in The New Yorker during Watergate. Vaguely, but I remember the feeling and racing to read what she wrote.

She’s still going strong, as sharp as ever. You can follow her on Twitter.

What is fascinating (and not all that surprising) is the shift along the continuum of what passes for conservative thought, from “There was no collusion,” to “Collusion is not illegal, but it was necessary, because Hillary.” Of course, the collusion they are referencing is really criminal conspiracy, but beyond that, they saw the 2016 election as the Flight 93 Election. And so what if Russian Intelligence is now deeply embedded in our institutions…

This essay The Flight 93 Election outlines the sordid thinking behind this notion. The idea, of course, is that they crash the plane to save the country. Except that crashing that plane has the potential to destroy the country, as recent events amply demonstrate. But at least they got their tax cuts and stolen Supreme Court seat, amirite?

Paid for “bear hunting in Russia”… LMAO, how ironic.

Ohhh, so the NRA want you to hold those poor orphaned baby bears in your arms! “Right to Bears in Arms”!

That makes a lot more sense…

The GOP and the NRA have both been full of rot for years.

“…transfers of money exceeding $10,000 to limited liability corporations…”

You know that banks, by law, are required to monitor these things and report suspicious activity to the feds. It has become a licensed profession, monitoring these activities. Evidently they look for patterns etc.

“…“There was no collusion,” …”

Indeed, this is a variation of the straw man argument in debate. One deliberately mis-characterizes an argument to make it easy to push over – straw man.

As you point out the real issue is criminal conspiracy, but writers of letters to suburban newspapers buy the – false – “no collusion” – statements as a protestation of innocence of ANY crime on the part of dotard.

Ever since Watergate every GOP person in any position of authority within the federal government has been working slowly but diligently at making all the scams and dirty tricks exposed therein not just legal but socially acceptable. Witness Citizens United along with many other 5:4 Supreme Court decisions dating back at least to Bush v. Gore.

And all this time he thought she was just a nice Russian girl who happened to give good h*. LoL.

So this whole investigation, started pre-Trump, is just another Obama Deep State Russia Derangement Syndrome thing?

So, money went to the NRA, and then to Trumpf. How much went to GOP members of Congress and GOP candidates?
