"Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (R-NV) "
Seriously?
I love it. Hope that’s one of the things President Obama does as he goes out the door as he metaphorically hands the keys to the newly minted Democratic President-elect.
Pa Cliven, honcho y jefe, of the Bundy Bunglers learns hubris can be a bitch…
LOL
This is the same crack-writer who penned two infamous pieces here at TPM giving positive spin on “the ladies of the wildlife refuge occupation” being the “voice of reason”.
Obama handled the Bundys the way he has handled so many challenges. He looks like he was backing down, leaving hands off, and then WHAM, sprang the trap. Bravo for him, and bravo for Reid.
Doncha’ love Harry when he gets riled?
Talk about a monumental task!
Talk about unintended consequences!!
Sweet.
Showing, once again, that sometimes, real life is like a West Wing episode.
Is there an actual reason to declare it a national monument? I mean other than in preparation for the installation of a giant sculpture of a middle finger directed toward Bundy Ranch? It does feel a little petty.
Haha…trollin’ trollin’ trollin’…
.[workers] have been under constant physical and mental threat for doing what the American people asked them to do."
One of the biggest casualities of the Bundy nonsense is that the sagebrush folk have stepped up the intimidation and vandalism. If the Feds say"'treat with respect", these people tear down barriers and rev up the ATVs. If the Feds say “don’t write on the canyon walls”, every 5 ’ gets marked up with a sharp rock.
The sagebrushers would s**t on their own kitchen floor just to irritate their housemates.
The article says Reid in the past wanted this site as a national monument. Is it a special landform in some way, or what, that made him try it then, before the Bundy fiasco?
Yes - there are good reasons (Bundys aside).
A more complete write-up should answer your question: http://lasvegassun.com/news/2015/apr/19/reid-making-monumental-push/
They’ve been trying to protect that area for years, because its assets are so fragile, but without a lot of success; upping the ante might do the trick, or at least offer more clout in protecting it.
Cliven’s wife has already take to Facebook I hear, to bellyache over it!
I do hear you and I hope this doesn’t backfire.
Policy reasons to do it would include giving ignorant ruralist yahoos reason to think hard next time before pulling this kind of gag, in Nevada, in Oregon, wherever.
Suggested name: Dumbfuck Memorial National Monument to Stupidity.
Or they’ll just occupy your house, clog your pipes, shit on your floor, and dig a slit latrine in your back yard. Oh and leave a derelict car on your front lawn.
