I’m just wondering… Might he want to make it complicated for anyone, say maybe opposing lawyers in his lawsuit, to get their hands on medical documentation of his procedure and the necessity, as well as any causal relationship to the fight with his neighbor?

Then why do we put up with this crappy healthcare system? The one advantage was supposed to be access to innovative solutions. Isn’t that one reason we pay way more than everyone else around the world?

Must be something other than a simple hernia. I have had 2 failed ventral (abdominal) hernia ops at a local respected hospital (by a quack I later found out), and then found a “difficult hernia specialist” at another local hospital, who repaired all the damage and then some. There are good hernia surgeons all around; you just have to find them.
So Canada makes no sense unless it is a ruse.

Yeah, actually. His son is good friends with my friend’s husband. She told me it’s been going on for years. It started when he put his composting bin near the property line and it apparently smelled so bad it made it impossible for the neighbors to enjoy their yard. Then he started growing pumpkins and kept allowing the vines to grow into his neighbor’s yard. On top of that, he’s just a bad and careless neighbor who doesn’t maintain his property very well.

This stinks to high heaven. Canada is not in-network, even for his federal plan. And the surgery sounds semi-elective, so I don’t know whether canada will pick up the tab. So either he’s being misleading about the details of his medical condition or he has privacy concerns that somehow can’t be resolved in the US, or something else entirely is going on (meeting with russians obviously pops to mind).
One possibility that seems not implausible is that he misrepresented some detail of his injuries in the initial media frenzy. Another is, as people have mentioned, that he has an entirely different condition, say, one for which getting US medication might leave a trail.
