Discussion: Prosecutors Drop Greitens Charge, Seek Special Prosecutor

Great News. Keep dragging it for the next six months or so.

When you are attacked, counter attack 10 times harder. That’s how Trump did it, that’s how Greitens will get away with it.

This is Roy Cohn’s world now. Welcome to the jungle.

Sounds like Missouri has a nest of corruption.

Kendzior says he’s still likely to go down. And there is a special session called, supposedly to move on articles of impeachment.

He still faces charges of felony computer tampering for using a donor list from a charity he founded to seek campaign donations, and that is a separate case without the discovery problems of the invasion of privacy case. The Missouri legislature is having a special session on Friday to discuss impeachment. Lots of Republican legislators have distanced themselves from him or loudly condemned him. He doesn’t appear to have many friends in state government, even within his own party. (Edited to correct description of tampering case).

Yes. Some of the coverage I read a while back said that he makes decisions without consulting Republican legislators, and they are not very happy about it. Sucks to be him.

Wouldn’t it be more efficient to simply assign a special prosecutor as soon as a Rethugliklan is elected?

Is he independently wealthy or is the state paying his attorneys? In any case, even in Missouri, it would seem his political career is over. The best he can hope for is to stay out of jail.

He does have a cash cow, er, “foundation”–Which is one of the reasons he’s now in trouble.

The attorney is pretty clear that this is not what should have happened, the judge’s decision is a bit strange. It should be noted that the judge has a strong connection to the defense attorney’s, so there may be some funny business going on with that decision.

It’s ironic that we have a Republican politician abusing the judicial system like this, considering their demands for tort reform that would stop these kinds of shenanigans…as always, a bunch of hypocrites. It’s very good that Greitens will stay in the news…as he goes down he’s going to try everything to stay afloat, and is already damaging Republicans along the way because he thinks they are betraying him by not treating him the way the Republican party has treated Trump. I know, there is so much wrong with that statement, but that’s where the Republican party is today…the more that gets dragged out in the light the better.

Yes, and Jesus loves them for it.

This is a jawdropping development. All I can say is ‘wow’. I’m interested to hear what the lawyers among us think about this. Apparently this tactic is known, but I think were all surprised that it’s a Republican trying to do it.

So much for them being the law and order party. As far as I am concerned, they don’t get to claim that anymore.

This is Greitens’ “Mission Accomplished” moment. It simply promises that his embarrassing tenure as Governor will persist as the election grows nearer…

We haven’t heard from Senator McCaskill yet either. It’ll be fodder for her reelection campaign.

The dismissal of the invasion-of-privacy charge does not end the governor’s legal and political troubles. The Missouri General Assembly has scheduled a special session for Friday that could lead to a vote on impeachment. Mr. Greitens also faces a separate felony charge of misusing a charity donor list for his political campaign.

State Representative Gina Mitten, a Democratic member on the House committee investigating Mr. Greitens, said in an interview that the dismissal of the charge “doesn’t change a thing.”

“We are an independent body,” she said. “Our committee has conducted an investigation for more than two months, and personally I do not think that the developments in the criminal case should have any impact on our committee continuing to investigate all allegations against the governor.”

The committee has issued two reports on Mr. Greitens so far.

Without a great deal of inner knowledge of this dude, it could be that he did indeed not do anything with the woman as reported, and the donor list could indeed have been a mistake, a huge one and all, but a mistake nonetheless.

Just sayin, not defending. But if that were the case, were I say, then perhaps the charges against Democrats should be looked at a little more carefully too? What did they say about Schneiderman, credible witnesses with credible charges, right? But credible is not actual, nor proven in a court of law.

Gary Hart had an affair, while David Vitter went running around in diapers getting spanked (or whatever he did, don’t really care, not my business, just remember the diaper bit) by women not his wife, he suffered no career consequences.

Al Franken took a stupid juvenile picture, he’s gone, Trump admits to gropes and hush money payouts with campaign cash, bupkis.

Maybe Democrats need to get off their high hores a bit and let the laws do their thing, and fight back a little more. I mean, jeebus, the media says hooker and the Dems are running for the exits, you know what I’m saying?

I’m not suggesting that Greitens is anything but a republican, but maybe he really didn’t do anything wrong, just like Al Franken or Hillary Clinton, or Bill Clinton for that matter. After all, Bill was chased down by an adult and no money or hush up agreements were involved.

Hopefully, Robert Mueller will be available soon, unless he is going to have to testify at all the Trump Crime Family trials…

Hart was going to run for president, had to abandon those plans after he was caught with a woman other than his wife. Vitter lost his race for LA governor to a Democrat, John Bel Edwards. So, yeah, they suffered career consequences, it’s just that they didn’t happen overnight.

Bill Clinton and his actions, you could write a book. Hillary was hung with his affairs and actions with other women.

I still believe Governor 50 Shades Of Kink is going to get away with it to prove that Republicans are above the law.

This will drag things out, because the grounds for refiling seem pretty clear. All they have to do is find a prosecutor from somewhere else (assuming local law allows).
