Discussion: Progressive Groups Blast North Carolina Anti-Gay Bill

Well, NC must have lots of taxpayer money to fight off a SC challenge, one they are sure to lose. I wonder if the Gov. refused to ask his own AG if this was legal…since they would have said no way. And it doesn’t matter if one is for or against all or parts of this retch of a bill. Unconstitutional is well, unconstitutional!

The AG, Roy Cooper, is a Democrat running against McCrory for the governorship. So I doubt there was much consultation between them at all. Cooper has come out and said the bill is stupid.

I’m in the process of letting North Carolina businesses that I have done business with before know that they are losing me as a customer since they are based in a state that hates me.

“Gov. Pat McCrory (R) signed a bill Wednesday night that keeps cities from passing anti-discrimination measures.”

I guess the GOP will need to change their favorite shibboleth to:

“That government is best which is closest to the people…except when we say so.”

The gay-bashing is just the stalking horse. The real point is the Kochtopus Imperium’s quashing of local wage and hour regulations and labor standards. McCrory and his imperial masters won’t give a tinker’s damn if the discriminatory parts are overturned.

Once again, Republicans are for local control, until they are in control.

The governor’s AG is Roy Cooper, the Democrat who’s running against him in November. Cooper’s advice on the constitutionality of the actions of McCrory and yahoos in the General Assembly has not been much sought by them these last three and a half years.

Can anyone tell me how this new “law” violates Romer v. Evans? Are there any legal experts looking at this garbage?

Wouldn’t it have to violate Romer v Evans? The CO ban on local LGBT anti-discrimination ordinances was instituted as the result of an initiative vote IIRC, not much of a real difference to the NC situation. I’m ashamed to admit these days that I’m a graduate of the U. of North Carolina though I’m sure the Chapel Hill area is still considered by the NC rubes as a “hotbed of Communism” as it was years ago when I was a student in the Jesse Helms days. I’m very glad I left the state immediately upon graduating.

What are the firms to boycott now? Bank of America at the top of the list? Wish I had one of their credit cards to send back.

I detest the hateful rubes who want this kind of legislation and even more so the cynical fucks who pass and sign such bills into law in order to hold on to their power so they can continue to fuck the states and the country into the ground.

Sorry. Tired and didn’t get much sleep last night.

This won’t reach the SCOTUS. It will probably reach the appeals court in DC, get struck down, and then won’t be heard by SCOTUS which will leave in place the appellate court’s ruling.

Absolutely sickening though.

I’m canceling our beach house. I love the outer banks, but I’m not spending a dime there now. Idiots.

This also prohibits suing in state courts for ANY discrimination…race, gender, religion, etc. This is owned by ALL of NC. If you cant vote these shitheads out of office or work to get other people out to do so…YOU ALL OWN IT!

It also nullified their anti discrimination statute as well.

I’ll just leave this right here! It should be required watching:

North Carolina has some big military installations. Wonder how this will conflict with federal protections for workers on those bases? It sure would be a shame for the state to lose its federal money teat, now wouldn’t it?

THIS is what Republicans and the assorted filth of Baggerdom’ mean by “…taking our country back.”

Spot on: It also makes it illegal for cities to set a higher minimum wage. And then it also cuts off any real recourse that citizens had to sue the state for discriminatory actions.
And then they kept the contents of the bill secret until the very last minute. As I said before, THIS is how a gerrymandered fascist state works.
Here is the very POS legislation:

I assume you refer to Art Pope, who is both Koch brothers rolled into one repulsive package.
