Discussion: Progressive Groups Blast North Carolina Anti-Gay Bill

Uhhh, governor, just because you do it at night doesn’t mean we can’t see what you did.

The same sort of thing is happening in Georgia right now. Some of Georgia’s biggest employers have come out against the bill. The Governor has till April 5th to decide. Let’s see who he sides with, money or bigotry.

Perhaps NC kept the bill quiet till it was signed for just this reason. Once it’s law the businesses will have a harder time affecting change.

I think we will get our just deserts on this one —

Mmmmm … warm apple pie —

And I really don’t think it’s going to have time to even get cold —

Ah … North Carolina ----

Art Pope and McCrory are both directly and deeply tied in to the Kochtopus network. North Carolina is more of a fief of the Kochtopus Empire than a directly ruled province like Wisconsin, but it’s in and of it. There’s a little more local variance from the ALEC model legislation, but in every case, it’s to make it more horrible, not less. There was a ton of Koch money flowing into and around McCrory’s campaign in addition to Pope’s private money.

Kay Hagan’s defeat, more than anything, was a product of a flood of Kochtopus money that was spent to run a concern trolly ad about Obamacare that they ran in several states but, in each case, presented as a real local mom who was Very, Very Concerned about healthcare. It was the damnedest thing. She walked around in this ad expressing her concern in short, platitudinous sentences, without actually saying anything all, summer and yet, somehow, Kay’s numbers just started tumbling. And Kay, following conventional campaign consultant advice, didn’t dip into her war chest to do battle with phantoms, saving it for the general. But by the general, it was too late. Like all the other Democratic senators who fell, she just didn’t have the kind of margin she needed to overcome the Ebola Terror Haterade factor by November.

We can hope that the NC legislators are ramming through all this (stuff) now because they have realized that they will be out of office come January. Let’s go, NC voters, protect everyone’s rights including your own. Vote for sane alternatives wherever possible.
