I remember the Nixon White House trying to get the CIA to stop he FBI from investigating the Watergate break in. It became the basis for the first impeachment count, obstruction of justice. History repeats itself, no doubt. First as tragedy, then as farce.

Good point. I doubt the FBI will say anything publicly, given Comey’s previous disastrous public statements. But the fact Wyden is urging Comey to speak up suggests that once more the Trump administration is doing its best to score an own goal (and here its incompetence is coming in handy).
Yeah, again, that’s “the media should stop with this unnamed-source stuff” Reince committed obstruction of justice.
Hope is this will open up the gate…
At the very least this should show that an independent investigation into Trump-Russia is required. If the administration is trying to interfere with the FBI it is clear they cannot be trusted when a Republican-led investigation is involved.

It’s too early to say , based on the facts, whether laws were broken. As an attorney, this looks something like obstruction of justice given that Priebus knew there was an investigation in progress. The language of the federal statute may require that he acted “corruptly” in influencing an FBI investigation . Sounds like a case a decent prosecutor could make.
It definitely matters. I’m concerned that there is an increasing view , from the left, that laws don’t matter because Republicans have no respect for law. Most of the lawyers at the Department of Justice are the same career lawyers and prosecutors as when Obama left office. Jeff Sessions, whom many people considered the dumbest person in the Senate, has confirmed it by excepting this gig as Attorney General.
Last week Trump said nobody on his side spoke to Russian intelligence.
Next week Trump will explain he meant none of his crew spoke Russian with their handlers.
Then the Russians will say “nobody in the White House speaks like they have any intelligence”

I wanted to write a disparaging limerick about Priebus but I can’t think of a word that rhymes with Reince.
If anything, Comey should be asking Priebus and the rest of the merry band of idiots for favors. He should have Trump on speed-dial and make him send Miller out to pick up his lunch.
That Priebus thinks he can influence an FBI investigation just shows how profoundly in over his head he is.
Priebus is a complete ineffectual jerk. Next he will call the FBI and ask them to say something nice about the Genovese crime family, to help take the heat off the operative Trump shared with the Russians and the Mafia.
The White House official would not comment when asked if the administration was concerned about the appropriateness of Priebus’ communications with McCabe.
Donald Trump stated publicly that General Flynn “did nothing wrong.” Does anybody in their right mind think that Donald Trump, a/k/a, the White House is concerned that the Chief of Staff tried to pressure the FBI to issue a premature white washing of this whole scandal? I would guess that Trump told Flynn to call the Russians and that he told Priebus to try and brow beat McCabe. It is Trump’s underhanded ,chiseling way. He can’t help but be a sleazebag, as he has been his entire adult life.
I think the best way to understand Trump is to see that he’s a crime boss. That’s how a crime boss handles this kind of situation. He waves his tiny little finger and says [cue mobster voice]: “Send Priebus to the FBI and tell dem I’m not likin’ what I hear from da New York Times. Tell ‘em fix dis now or someone gonna be sleepin’ with da fishes.”
