Forgive me for postulating, but I will not be surprised to find out that Bannon asked Reince to do this, stood next to him smiling at CPAC today and had operatives toss Reince under the bus later in the day.

If it is not Obstruction of Justice it sure seems like attempted Obstruction. It is worth noting that the first of the three Impeachment charges found against Richard Nixon was in fact Obstruction of Justice.
It is also worth noting that Andrii Artemenko, a Ukrainian legislator has allegedly been working with Trump’s personal lawyer Michael Cohen and Trump associate Felix Sater, a convicted felon and government informant, on a proposal to be presented to Trump to “legitimize the temporary occupation” by Russia of the Crimean peninsula, which Russia annexed by force in 2014. and to relax U.S. sanctions against Russia (see earlier TPM article & NY Times). Artemenko is currently under investigation by Ukraine prosecutors for treason in conspiring with Russia to commit “subversive acts against Ukraine.
It begins to appear that the Trump bubble of corruption is already beginning to burst.

The FBI most likely leaked this story of Priebus pressuring them to the press. People had been suspecting it since Priebus’ faux pas on last weekend’s morning shows. The question is why did Comey allow this story to get leaked which clearly puts the WH on the defensive, when Comey has been DT’s benefactor in many critical ways?
I don’t know the answer, but if I were to speculate, here are some random thoughts:
- Maybe the assumption is wrong and it was Bannon who leaked it to the Press to screw with Reince? He was very buddy buddy with him at CPAC, and Reince aims to please, but maybe Bannon wanted to screw him over or establish dominance.
- Maybe Comey was sick of the pressure and saw this move as a way to maintain the stagecraft of integrity and independence? A little stiff arm just to keep a safe distance even though they’re still tethered with a velcro rope.
- Maybe Comey views himself as a type of bureaucratic kingmaker and has some odd notion of virtue tied in with his personal ideology (religion/politics). In that sense, he might be stirring the pot since the GOP won’t act on Trump. Perhaps he has a close affinity for Pence and wants to see him in the WH.
- Maybe this was Comey’s attempt to push the hot potato out into the public so he isn’t accused of a cover up, with the intent of letting Trump deal with it in the political sphere.
I don’t know, but that’s what comes to mind.

This article makes no sense. The FBI hasn’t spoken publicly about the case, so how is a rule about the WH pressuring the FBI to comment publicly relevant?
What appears has happened is that someone has leaked real or sent falsified information to the NYT. We don’t know if they’re from the FBI or not, and all we know is that their motivation is to destabilise the democratically elected (albeit unpopular) US government.
If the FBI genuinely believes that information to be falsified, as appears to be the case, then that is the real story. This nonsense about the WH not being able to talk to the FBI is a distraction. The NYT needs to answer now.
You’re right - I’d guess they’re more concerned about the NYT, and whoever their ‘source’ was, peddling misinformation to try and destabilise the US government.

Russia has damaged our internal democratic process. The highest executives have been in cooperative contact with Russian intelligence. Trump and his family quite likely owes Russia a lot of money. Russia has nuclear warheads aimed at us.
