The Goopers are learning that talk is cheap – actually having to take responsibility is a completely different animal.
One that can bite you in the ass.
“It’s money that matters”. Always was and always will be
This is a video of a discussion of the future of the ACA at the University of Chicago’s Institute of Politics (David Axelrod’s outfit). It’s longish but very rational and civilized. Highly recommended.

What is the upside for The Moron and his Minions to act before Congress does? His approval rating is already in the toilet. Blow up the insurance market and he could blow right by W’s 25% nadir. And we all know that the only thing The Moron truly cares about is his popularity.
Let’s think thermodynamically. There are many, many ways that Price et al can blow up the market, deliberately or accidentally. There are very few ways that stability can be maintained. The pencil is balanced on its tip. What do you think is going to happen next?
My take away is that Everybody Hates the ACA, but nobody wants to be the first to put a bullet through it.
Does anyone think that Pres. 45 has an advisor at the WH advising him on how and when to put a bullet in the ACA?
The Congressional Republicans are waiting for “Daddy” to handle the mess, while the “Daddy” is waiting for Congress to handle the mess.
To Trump supporters this is what you wanted, can you handle the excitement and suspense?
Please change the headline: “Kill Obamacare or put it in a coma”. ACA is healthy but handicapped, not a vegetable yet.
But Obamacare critics are already warning that, if Price is not careful, the measures he takes to prop up the Affordable Care Act might make it harder to repeal down the road.
If there hasn’t been a discussion about what a replacement would be for the ACA, then discussing a repeal is just pie in the sky. But, then, I wouldn’t really expect “an associate professor of law at the South Texas College of Law in Houston” to understand that.
@hquain I think nothing will happen.
My barber Al put it a little more pithily: “Money talks, and bullshit walks.”
I’ve found an event where all my local GOOP (Grand Old Opposition Party) Congressweasels (including the GOOP Senator) are going to be. If questions are going to be taken from the assembled throng, I’ll pay for my admission so I can ask those worthless f***s the following:
- Excuse me, Congressweasel C, but were you a Member in 2009 and 2010? (Yes).
- How did you vote on the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act? (No).
- Did you work in Committee to improve the PPACA in any way? (No).
- Are you aware that XXXXXX of the citizens in Our Fair State purchase their health insurance on the exchange? Are you aware that YYYYYYY of the citizens of Our Fair State get their health insurance via the Medicaid expansion? Are you aware that ZZZZZZ of our citizens are caught in the affordable coverage hole between Medicaid availability and Exchange affordability? (No to all, I expect.)
- How do you plan to address these serious problems without crashing our jury-rigged health care finance system? You do understand that what we are talking about is not health care – it is health care finance, don’t you???
- And finally, given that the problem is health care finance, why the fuck did you let Mr Trump install an orthopedic surgeon to oversee this? Was he a secret economics major or something?
Have I mentioned today how much I hate these people?
“Chaos? Who gives a shit about chaos?” Standard GOP reply. Copy and repeat.
Make no mistake: Folks will die if they repeal the ACA without a replacement.
Keep it on life support? The GOP has been talking about a full repeal ever since it was passed. They voted for full repeal over 50 times. Why on earth would they want to offer any support to ACA? Go ahead, GOP, burn it down like you keep saying. I dare you.
So, the choices are to strangle it or to allow it to twist in the wind. What a pity that fixing it to improve the lives of American citizens isn’t even being considered.
Talk is cheap, and while Price will be heading HHS, he will no longer be responsible for authoring any legislation. I hate to keep reminding people, but there are serious limits to executive powers. Yes, they can make a lot of mischief, but in the end, it is really going to require complete compliance from our national legislature. “The President proposes, the Congress disposes.” That’s still the rule, although for the time being, the Congress is still sitting on its hands. I predict that will change, and sooner rather than later. 2018 elections are coming down the pike, very soon; don’t think that ever member of the House is not aware of that.
Trump’s Razor.
Price will make a combination of statements and regulatory proposals that scare the crap out of the insurance companies while worsening the exchange market, damaging medicaid and costing the federal government a pile more money. All the while claiming he is trying to fix things. Remember that he doesn’t yet have confirmed sub-cabinet staff or experienced civil servants in place, so anything he does will be vague, inconsistent and likely subject to litigation.
Trump’s crew will double-down on evil every chance they get. Price will do his worst. He has never given any indication that he cares. Why would he now? He will sandbag the ACA.
Trump said his plan for replacing most aspects of Obama’s health-care law is all but finished. Although he was coy about its details — “lower numbers, much lower deductibles” — he said he is ready to unveil it alongside Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).
“It’s very much formulated down to the final strokes. We haven’t put it in quite yet but we’re going to be doing it soon,” Trump said. He noted that he is waiting for his nominee for secretary of health and human services, Rep. Tom Price (R-Ga.), to be confirmed.
From the same interview:
“We’re going to have insurance for everybody,” Trump said. “There was a philosophy in some circles that if you can’t pay for it, you don’t get it. That’s not going to happen with us.” People covered under the law “can expect to have great health care. It will be in a much simplified form. Much less expensive and much better.”
That sounds great. Unfortunately, it came from Trumpp, so it is bullshit.
Didn’t a federal court just last week order congress to come up with the huge amount of cash owed to the insurance companies because of little marco’s bill to not fund the subsidization of the insurance companies? I believe the suit was brought in Oregon and in just that one state the amount was something like $200 Million that was not paid to insurance companies but was owed them under the ACA.
You break it you own it, come on republicans go ahead end the ACA with no replacement, you’ll only piss of the insurance companies the health care industry and any american who can count past 10 without taking their shoes off.
