Discussion: Pressure Builds On Macron As Paris Cleans Up After Latest Riot

Dear People of France,

WTF did you expect from Macron? He openly ran as a Neoliberal who was going to cut taxes on the rich and corporations, take away your rights as workers, and raise the taxes of little people to pay for it. And they say American voters are stupid! At least our Neoliberals hid their agenda in Liberal-sounding platitudes.

Love,

Ken in MN

(P.S. I do commend you for fucking shit up, though. We just bend over and take it again, and again and again…)

He sounds like a typical establishment Democrat. Yay social issues! Yay Wall St consultants!

This reminds me a little of the left’s reaction to early Obama. Not the savior projected on him, so he must be the devil.

Looks like the Russians are everywhere these days. Orchestrating riots on the streets of Paris and lamenting their fortunes on Democratic blogs. Don’t you guys like to interact with each other any longer?

Who’s fault is that? Remember the phrase ‘Change you can believe in’? Were people to assume it was bullshit from the start? I thought the reason people liked and wanted Obama was he wasn’t full of bullshit. I seem to remember quite clearly that he ran as an agent of change. The reality was however, that Obama was a centrist to his core, and instead of changing the status quo, he was a champion and protector of a status quo he was elected to destroy. It’s a status quo that only seems to benefit the wealthy. Current situation in France seems to outline this pretty well.

Dude better put some stimulus into the French working society or Le Pen is gonna make Russia Great Again in France.

You want people to riot in DC, NYC, Chicago, etc? You’d applaud people for “fucking shit up?”

And yet when American PoC protest or riot, it’s seen as a character flaw or people looking for an excuse to loot and destroy. When White folks in Philly torn up stuff after their Eagles won the Super Bowl, it was somehow okay and the police smiled and cheered.

Do you really commend the French for fucking shit up, or are you just trolling?

Are we sure the protesters weren’t hired by George Soros?

“Trump weighed in on the weekend’s latest round of riots in Paris, claiming that protesters have been chanting “We Want Trump,” as well as arguing that the Paris climate agreement was to blame for the protests.”

Trump should relinquish his US citizenship and move to France to help the French people.

Maybe he can get a wall built across France’s southern border and get Spain to pay for it.

Obama, O brilliant one, had to work with a Republican congress, which had vowed from Day One of Obama’s administration to oppose every single proposal he offered. Yet he still managed, with the help of Pelosi, to pass the Affordable Care Act. Idiot.

In Europe, every couple hundred years, the peasants revolt. This has the flavor of the revolt of the Jacques in 1350. They were absolutely totally tired of the crap from the ruling class. A tax would be imposed to start a war. After the war went badly due to French military incompetence (read “A distant mirror” for an amazing century-long period of military disasters based essentially on the arrogance of the chivalric system of armored nobles) and the armored nobles and “better people” would be captured, a tax would be imposed to get the ransom money.

This tax - relatively modest - is the “straw-camel” thing. Partly there is the fact that Macron just gave the ultra-rich a relief from a “high-income” tax. We have French friends - a friend is “county-road supervisor” in Bretagne, and he in looking for the guillotine for Macron. This is a middle-class technocrat government worker - his wife is a village official.

Clever. Ignorant, however.

What there is in France is a wall across the Italian border, and soon a wall across the Spanish border. The French are just NOT interested in the tidal wave of African invaders coming first to Italy, and now to Spain. Italy just (Nov 28) changed their laws to deny asylum for economic migrants (95% of all invaders).

Last year, a French farmer was convicted of helping illegals enter France. More are being tried. We need such methods here.

In Hungary, they did build a wall. 500 K of wall between Hungary and Slovenia/Serbia was put up in about 2 weeks. Barbed wire. It has been entirely effective in keeping out the tidal wave of migrants from FRY, Turkey, and other points south.

In addition, in Europe, the Schengen no-barriers system has pretty much collapsed. For tourists, pretty much in place. But for truckers, not much. Just like trucks coming into the USA, they are inspected. In France, there is a persistent attempt by hundreds of economic invaders to get from France to the UK. That is not being allowed. In Sweden, the bridge between Sweden and Denmark used to be open. Now, you are stopped and checked. Europe has realized that unrestricted, free migration is immediately turned into a huge liability by the forces of anarchy and invasion.

Walls work.

@nightshadow During Obama’s first 2 years in office, he had a Democratic Congress. That’s how he accomplished anything at all. Once the GOP took over Congress in 2012, every Obama and Democratic effort was blocked.

I recall that on more than one occasion, Obama offered Republicans exactly what they demanded, and they STILL refused to come to agreements with him. That’s pro-level obstruction.

Our government is operating on Continuing Resolutions because Republicans tried to use CRs to force concessions out of Obama. The reason we are nearing ANOTHER shutdown is because Republicans refuse to stop trying to hold the country hostage as a means of advancing their agenda. No negotiations, no bipartisanship, no plan beyond give me what I want or else.

So given that environment, what do you think Obama could/should have done to advance change?

In my experience, “trolls” are people who disagree but who are more intelligent and coherent than you.

“Walls work.”

More often than not walls work to contain the country putting them up, effectively fencing themselves in. The Berlin Wall was a great example of that.

“In addition, in Europe, the Schengen no-barriers system has pretty much collapsed.”

I have not experienced such a “collapse”.

“In Sweden, the bridge between Sweden and Denmark used to be open.”

Still is.

Perhaps your sources are all wrong.
