“Better to get your news directly from the President. In fact, it might be the only way to get the unvarnished truth.” Don’t let the door slap you on the way out Lamar. PLEASE JEEBUS let someone rational take his place.
Hopefully the raccoon that has been sleeping on his head for years also plans a well-deserved retirement.
What are HIS Russian ties?
Don’t count on it. His district was deep red even before Reagan. Smith was less of a whackadoodle than what will likely succeed him.
Just looked it up… Cook gives it R+10, but it’s a 43% non-white district. Jeb Hensarling’s district is 50%± minority. This is interesting.
“It is humbling living in a small apartment in Washington.”
Translation: I need to start making my time in DC pay off big time after I leave office (if I am not indicted by Mueller).
“For several reasons, this seems like a good time to pass on the privilege of representing the 21st District to someone else…"
“…Three of which were unsealed on Monday.”
One of the most dangerous members of Congress…his entire goal has been to remove peer review from science funded by the government and replace it with political review. Nothing would ruin how science is done, and how our nation functions, more than taking such a step. We will all benefit when he’s gone…the threat to science won’t go away, but one of the most powerful people in Congress pushing to destroy our scientific institutions will not be there undermining things anymore.
Yes because the district, which I’m in, was gerrymandered to a fare thee well. At one time there was a district that covered mostly minoritiy population neighborhoods that kept rel-electing a Democrat named Martin Frost. Everyone in his district loved him. So Tom Delay redrew that district and made two out of it and included parts of east Dallas that are affluent and that’s how we got Jeb Hensarling and Phil Sessions.
By listening to Lamar Smith for just 5 minutes, one finds it absolutely astounding that this stupid motherfucker can even figure out how a folding chair works.
Hensarling, Smith… if only Ted Poe would go too.
Of course, I would still be screwed because of the way TX-2 is gerrymandered, but maybe the new critter would have balls enough to have a town hall once in awhile.

[/quote]“And from what I hear, more to come. Damn, that Mueller is really changing the climate around here, and it’s not having positive effects. It’s just getting hotter.”
Wave or no wave, I’m just not seeing any of these Texas Birchers who are calling it quits being replaced by anyone who isn’t worse. And that leaves me with the abiding conviction that the main reason they’re going is that they see an impeachment vote in their future if they get reelected and, for whatever reason, they just can’t face it.
The possibility that they’ll face one before then, of course, can only be solved by the Chaffetz Option.
Buhbye, fucko.
I dislike but vaguely respect Jeff Flake. Lamar Smith can go play in traffic.
“The use of fossil fuels and the byproducts of carbon enrichment play a large role in advancing the quality of human life by increasing food production to feed our growing population, stimulating the economy, and alleviating poverty,”
Making room for their newest nut.
Their replacements may be no better, but at least that seniority dies with the departure.
I know you know, @tena, but for those outside of Texas… if you want to see truly creative gerrymandering, just look at the TX map.
