Not a coincidence that many of the Malheur occupiers were on the fringe of and lived beside the Fundamentalist Mormons. I believe that Lavoy Finicum was from Colorado City or just over the line in the next town. Taking all that Federal SSI and Medicaid for adoptions, his primary source of income, from a government he hated was “bleeding the beast.”

Consider what percent of the overall population in this region participated in the fraud and then overlay that number on a few inner city bodegas. Imagine all the sturm und drang from the “See! I TOLD you they were thieves and liars!” crowd…

They may have called it that, but it actually was “living as a parasite, because living our dream life of total control over the community and having unlimited wives and kids was not economically feasible”. And, they knew it.

So if they’d just done the fraud part of using the food stamps to buy food for the church, they might not have been discovered? (There’s another layer of this, which is that part of the fraud depends on the fact that polygamy is not recognized by law. So all these women living in community houses having children by the same man are “single mothers” who have been indoctrinated to claim they have no idea who should be supporting their kids and thus are entitled to food stamps and welfare support.)

I sincerely doubt that “the bitches” are in charge.
Warren Jeffs, the leader, is currently serving a life sentence for sexually assaulting his 12- and 15-year-old child brides.

Under the Banner of Heaven is a great book.
These women are adults now, they should take responsibility for their actions and stop being a public charge.
If it were 12- or 15-year old black girls that grew up in a intimidating environment and bad direction that got knocked up, will you tell them,. “you are not in charge, there is nothing you can do”? Or would you expect them to take charge of their own lives?
Perhaps you would work on helping them take charge of their own lives in a step-by-step way, rather than saying “Congratulations, you’re responsible for yourself now, and subject to the full weight of the law.”
