And if he thinks that bitching about Mean Nancy telling him STFU and not letting him do his SOTU is going to earn him any sympathies he is for disappointment. Nobody likes whiners.

“I do support a wall, but not the way he’s handling it,” Rabalais added. “Trump guaranteed everybody that Mexico would pay for the wall Now he’s holding American workers like me hostage.”

It’s just because his Saturday master stroke hasn’t been polled yet.

I believe that many deplorables, although they like what Trump represents, they are very disappointed that their saviour is completely inept.

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. Trump won by conning independents and some Democrats.
He’ll never win with just his base. Karl Rove warned the GOP about this not too long after I first mentioned it.

This is where having absolutely no one on your staff with any humanity, decency, common-sense, or intelligence comes back to bite you in the ass. He put himself in a box of his own making -like an ersatz David Copperfield -with no way of getting out of it without humiliating himself.

…but the base is where Trump gets his jollies and his jollies are all that matter to him.

Mr. Mueller, if you’re reading this: Now would be a great time to drop the many Kushner charges onto the Crime Family.

Poll respondent Kelley Thorson, of St. Robert, Missouri, who backed Trump in the 2016 election, says she supports the wall but largely disagrees with the president’s rationale.

“I can’t say it would make us safer,” the 57-year-old said.

So the purpose of the wall is what exactly? Why spend billions on it?

To keep out the people who aren’t a threat.

Duh.

About that wall.

Former members of crime lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman’s cartel testified during his trial that drug traffickers usually smuggled drugs through legal checkpoints along the U.S.-Mexico border.

They even used tanker cars via the railroad.

“Trump is responsible for this,” said poll respondent Lloyd Rabalais… “I do support a wall, but not the way he’s handling it… Trump guaranteed everybody that Mexico would pay for the wall. Now he’s holding American workers like me hostage.”

It’s a shame that nobody warned poor Lloyd that Donald Trump might pull a bait-and-switch on him. This was just totally out of the blue, absolutely and completely unpredictable, the idea that Trump might say X and do Y, then blame Z for it while pretending that actually W was K all along.

Unfortunately for Lloyd, since he is a federal contractor, he is a Democrat. His pain therefore does not count. It is all bigger than one man, after all.

The wall is Trump’s monument to racism and white supremacy. It’s a metaphor not a functional deterrent.

The key take away from this is not just that Trump is at 34% approval (this is on the lowside, my best guess from the recent quality polls is that he is at about 36-37% right now), and that his approval has fallen from the roughly 42% he was at in the midterms, but that his losses are with independent voters.

Prior dips in his approval have been when he “compromised” or the republicans failed to accomplish things (e.g. repeal Obamacare) and that number was not so real as it reflected the far right saying they did not approve. What you are seeing now is the left of his support (moderate conservatives and conservative independents) bailing on Trump. If he keeps pushing right, he will cement these voters as anti-Trump.

Put another way (and contrary to what Individual 1 thinks) while his right wing may not be happy in the past, they would have come out and voted for him. But to keep the far right happy, he has pissed off what of the middle of the electorate was open to supporting him. The opposition to Trump is now hardened into about 55% of the electorate, if a few points more hardens and becomes unpersaudable, he is toast. This poll (and other recent ones where the cross tabs were available) show he is going down the wrong path, leading to a huge… defeat in 2020.
