Discussion for article #239748
Once this information reaches the GOP base, Trump’s popularity will soar to new heights.
Know what? The Hispanics may be on to something.
I’m kind of curious about the Hispanics that approve of him. There can’t be tons of elderly, exiled Cubans.
Trump is simply helping the GOP with their outreach to minorities.
(snicker)
Not surprising, since his entire campaign in recent days has been nothing but lies and crap about their future in this country.
What is surprising is that there would be ANY support of Trump’s candidacy in that population.
Trump needs to move on to alienating other constituencies, he’s thoroughly conquered this sector. With this morning’s Megyn Kelly bashing maybe women are next up at the plate. The death rattle of the Angry White American is a sight to behold.
JEB! at +11 % ? WTF ?
JEB! = WII!
Jeb is the only candidate that is remotely attractive to Hispanics. I bet his polling among Asians dropped yesterday.
Republicans have seemingly decided there is one last Prez race that can be won without the help of non-white, minority voters. There can be no other explanation. Every four years the Left predicts the GOP will have to become more tolerant, inclusive and mindful of non-Caucasian/hetero/Christian concerns, and every election the GOP ignores what seems an obvious concession to reality and changing demographics. As they’re doing again for 2016. Yet somehow they gerrymander and lie their way into offices all over the country, even controlling both houses of Congress. It just has to catch up with them one day. When?
The Donald don’t need no stinking bridges ! ! — He’s got a helicopter ! ! – Burn Baby Burn ! ! —
The “I’ve got mine, to hell with you” demographic?
The other half of the equation
R candidates don’t worry about their negatives with black voters, because they know that carries with it a bump among the Bubbas and other white racist groups. So the full story here would have to look at how much of a bump the Donald gets among the racists by being a Hispanophobe.
B-b-but the blacks and Hispanics love him! Damn liberal bias of reality…
Did they poll all 12 of the Hispanic voters who are likely to vote Republican?
Well…for the House, the 2010 Gerrymander means that the G.O.P. can espouse slavery for African Americans, total deportation of ALL Latinos and fracking required in all National Parks…and still hold on.
For the Senate and the President, its a tad different. Instead of Baggers conveniently Gerrymandered to outnumber others, the reality is that STATEWIDE and NATIONWIDE, there are actual Democratic constituencies to deal with.
(1) The MSM will do it’s best to assert (subliminally) that “both sides” are “equivalent”…what Mann and
Ornstein call “False Equivalency”
(2) Many of the younger potentially Democratic voters are so alienated by politics that they think it is
all a waste
(3) The MSM will do their Best to make the whole thing a Horserace. Good for Business
(4) 40% of the population will always vote Republican, no matter what, leaving only a few percentage
points to make up.
(5) Then there are assorted tricks like limiting voting hours, numbers of machines in Democratic-heavy
locations, misleading info regarding times and places to vote.
(6) Oh…and don’t forget “True The Vote” and other thugs available to intimidate
(7) And (this is a favourite in Latin America) “it’s not how many people who vote, it’s who counts the
votes”
And there are a bunch of others…like the October (2016) Surprise…and stuff many would never think about…like the Swift Boating that Kerry supporters wished they had been more prepared for.
The good news is that most of us already know about all of this…and those Democratic constituencies still have it within their power to elect viable candidates. Although each of the above (1) thru (7) are valid concerns, none of them present insurmountable obstacles. Even the cheating the G.O.P. will try, can be counteracted. Believe me, I have been on the ground in Latin America when the people had far less recourse than people here.
It’s all a matter of caring enough to, for the next 15 months or so, resolving to reserve 2 days to
(a) register
(b) vote
Not just the left. The GOP’s now infamous post mortem on their 2012 campaign came to the same conclusion. Stunningly, it was rejected by the RNC, who decided that their path in 2016 was paved with pure white voters. Trump has now locked them onto that road, probably for a long time to come, but definitely for this election.
This poll bodes poorly for their down ticket hopes even more than it does their White House hopes. They have 26 seats up for re election in the Senate, many in blue or blue leaning states where Hispanic turn out will be a big key.
But the GOP isn’t just targeting Hispanics. They are actually attacking every minority, Blacks, Asians, Women. I suspect that 2016 is going to be a blood bath for them in the Senate.
This information does not matter… See Trump said he will win the Hispanic vote if he is the nominee. So nothing else really matters. These Trump supporters. I know everyone has opinions. But seriously these people are just freaking clueless about how the electorate works. Ie… You wanna win the general election you need hispanic votes to win. The GOP knows this after the 2012 election. It’s all about numbers.
The reality is these Trump/Ted Cruz supporters. They think anyone Hispanic is an illegal immigrant or feeding off the gov’t. I work with a guy has these views.
Would like to know what kind of Hispanics were in this poll, Hispanics from the Caribbean (Cubans, Puerto Rician, etc) or Hispanics from Mexico and Central America.
Yeah, that was my first thought. Sure, it’s hurting Trump with Hispanics, but it also has to be hurting the GOP in general with Hispanics. Especially given how little pushback – and how much agreement – there is from the rest of the party.
