Discussion: Poll: One-Third Of Americans Don’t Know Obamacare, ACA Are The Same Thing

72 percent of Republicans understood the two terms referred to the same health care policy, according to the survey.

That does not make any sense. They are the 27% bunch.

Obamacare : boo! socialist takeover of health industry!
ACA : wow, that’s pretty good

Eighteen percent said they didn’t know and will never know anything they should know

good thing for them that breathing is hard wired

wonder what percentage of the 35% clueless will be those that lose their health insurance because of how they voted?

Inheritance Tax vs Death Tax - One’s good the other not so good.

This is unsurprising. I’ll posit roughly the same ill-informed percent of people are functionally illiterate.

Every day I am shocked at how ignorant Americans are. Willfully and deliberately uninformed…and proud of it. Nothing matters unless it’s entertaining. I despair.

What they find entertaining is cause alone for despair.

Another Democratic leadership failure in communicating to the electorate.

Democrats should take lessons from the Republicans – just leave out the Republicans’ chronic lying and misleading.

And I would bet there is a strong correlation between this glaring unawareness, the educationally challenged, and the medically challenged. Namely Drumpf supporters…

Not likely as this was an online poll, so there has to be some level of literacy, if not understanding.

A) Not in the least bit surprising.

B) Would have been nice to have a qualifying question as to who the respondent voted for in the election and another for where they stand on repeal, replace or both?

C) 72% of Republicans know they are the same? That seems off by a large amount

sigh Yet the next demonstration of why Democracy is a Bad Thing.

There really should be a basic intelligence/social awareness test to allow one to vote.

I weep for my country .
How do you fix that level of willful ignorance ?
Downright fucking depressing .
Thank you Ailes , Murdoch, Jones et al for reducing the collective IQ of the country

The ability to stumble your way through basic words does not make you literate. No more than the fact you eat food makes you a culinary expert, nor the ability to run an athlete, nor watching a movie a reputable cinema critic. Sure, “literate” as defined in the dictionary says you can read. Yet some of the most illiterate people on the planet can fumble through an online poll.

Definition of literate
1
a : educated, cultured
b : able to read and write <What percentage of the population is literate?>
2
a : versed in literature or creative writing : literary
b : lucid, polished
c : having knowledge or competence (see competent 2)

After reading Jill Stein’s tweet yesterday blaming Dems for Devos’ confirmation when not a single Dem voted for her, I was reminded of something that we don’t really discuss that much: There are a lot of low information voters in the Democratic coalition. They understand less about how the political system works than do the most ‘poorly educated’, spelling-challenged Trumpers. Recall that Stein got votes in the tens of thousands in several key states, enough to swing at least 2 states. Our target really isn’t Trump voters. They are actually pretty rational about their choice for Trump despite their general ignorance on many issues. They want a racist who will tilt the playing field and rewards to them. That commitment of Trump’s won’t change no matter how ineffective or counterproductive he is. The real target is Berners. A lot of them are quite easily swayed by fake news, but the real problem is that they don’t understand how voting works or much about the key issues.

I hate to keep carping at him, since he’s resembled a journalist lately, but I always go back to Chuck Todd and his “it’s not my job to distinguish facts from lies about Obamacare” nonsense. A succesful branding job based on alternate facts is still BS, and actual journalism might have helped combat all the lies in the early Obama years.

And if just 1% of that 35% of Americans were from PA, MI and OH, that was enough to sway the Electoral College.

In other news, the same poll showed one third of Americans have their heads up their asses.
