Discussion for article #243602
And this is why the GOP as a political party, and “conservatism” in its current incarnation needs to die.
Proves how absymally stupid Republicans are. They don’t realize that someone who wants to slice and dice who is or is not “American” may face the same thing someday. Remember the Khmer Rouge killing people who wore eyeglasses (weaklings, after all). There is no end to the process.
I just saw in The Guardian, by the way, that Trump fundraised for the IRA in NY before the terrorist attacks on London in 1995. So you see he’s not against ALL terrorism… http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2015/dec/09/donald-trump-ireland-sinn-fein-terrorism
I get the 18% of the general electorate. These are the same people who think George Bush pees gold and poops jelly beans. They are the same group that believe in bigfoot and psychics. But who the f— are the 44% where this makes no difference? I am hoping that means that there was no chance in Hell they would support Trump anyway and this doesn’t change that. But his proposal actually made me think less of him, something I didn’t think possible.
I saw this quote on ths site on another thread… it is also appropriate here…
“When Fascism comes to America it will come wrapped in the Flag and carrying a Cross.” - Upton Sinclair
We have met the enemy, and they are the Republican base.
well, I mean, of course. they ARE the party of the constitooshun, after all.
Trump: I would have told you so without this vote. I am ahead for one basic reason: My racist/rapist positions jibe very well with Republican base. No point being PC about this. Liberals will evolve as well, we just need more Rapists/Muslim killings.
It is hard to tell without looking directly at the poll, but it could be that at least a portion of the identified 44% are people who will never vote for Trump, period. Thus, whatever he says about banning Muslims will have “no impact on their vote.”
By the way… just WHO are these people that respond to candidate polling? I have never received a poll before and if I did get a call a year ahead, I’d just hang up. So… who is responding?
People who cling to guns, Bibles and land lines.
37 percent of all likely general election voters said they support Trump’s plan while 65 percent of likely Republican primary voters said they back the ban.
Trump is saying all the right things to get chosen as the Republican candidate and not get elected President.

BTS: just wait awhile. donnie is escalating. outrageous is his new normal. insidious, vile, and evil are still available.
The GOP electorate are who we thought they were.
As a life long Democrat, I’ve been called more than a dozen times since spring–all from Republican candidates. I guess your just luckier than I.
Probably. There is very little Trump could possibly propose that would make me less likely to vote for him. If HRC were caught on a hot mic filleting and eating a live baby, I would probably vote for the Green Party candidate before I’d vote for Trump. I imagine many others feel the same way.
The most amazing thing about this (note I said “amazing”, not “surprising”) this the total unawareness that this totally vaporizes the notion of “freedom of religion”. If the Federal Government has the power to ban members of one religion, it can ban any religion.
If Islam is subject to Federal restrictions, so is Christianity. Otherwise the Feds aren’t “protecting religion”, they are only doing special favors.
Compare to the extreme hypersensitivity on the right about the “gun rights” of those judged too dangerous to allow on to airplanes.
To put a finer line on it, this is why the old bigots who have become the base of the GOP need to die off.
{raised hand} Me. I took a call on my dad’s landline several weeks ago that ended up being a push poll for Cruz. I think it’s an important part of the political process to respond to pollsters and to respond truthfully. It gives candidates a gauge of where the electorate stands and tells campaigns where they need to spend their money and time. With the Ted Cruz poll, I just wanted to register my disgust.
Was it HL Mencken who wrote that nobody ever lost a GOP primary underestimating the bigotry of the Republican base. Something like that …
