Discussion: Poll: Nearly Half Would Blame Trump, Republicans For Gov't Shutdown

Nearly half of Americans would blame President Donald Trump and congressional Republicans in the event of a government shutdown, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll released Friday,

Nearly half?

Who are the remaining nearly more than half blaming?

Obama?

Crooked Hillary?

The heartbreak of Psoriasis?

I think 53% is over half, so the headline should be “Over Half Would Blame Trump, Republicans For Gov’t Shutdown.” Of course, in the other poll 48% pin the shutdown on Republicans alone, 28% blame Democrats and 18% blame both parties.

Nearly half? That is hardly a surprise. Why would they blame Democrats?

What was I reading yesterday about the Democratic spine stiffening?

“Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., cautioned Thursday that “people die, accidents happen” when the government shuts down, as it is poised to partially shut down Friday night if Congress doesn’t pass a government spending bill. It was her second shift in position on the bill in just one day.”

So now he’s invited Schumer to the White House to discuss how to avert the shutdown.

I hope Schumer doesn’t help him in any way shape or form. The Democrats have this big fat fish to fry first and foremost and he’d better help do it.

But we’ll see.

Republicans are already trying to hammer Democrats and get the message out how it’s the Democrats fault. Time to kick in some serious outrage and beat them at their own game.

18% are, of course, blaming bad ol’ Bothsides, the source of all our problems.

A government shutdown doesn’t start getting serious until the Treasury stops sending checks to those on Social Security, government contractors and companies receiving medicare and medicaid payments. When the checks stop just watch the screaming.

The poll was rigged. It didn’t give Obama and Clinton as choices.

Anyhoo…wow was my initial prediction wrong. I figured there would be at least slightly more parity at the start, but with the GOP taking most blame, and then something would happen like Trump playing golf on Day 1 to throw the balance off much more towards the GOP. Instead, this is going to be a bloodbath for these asshats right from the get-go.

There is absolutely no reason and no excuse for the Dems to find their way to mercy here.

For what it’s worth, she’s absolutely right. I would be seriously pissed if she caves on this, but we should at least recognize this is a very sober and serious situation. I’m glad this is a burden that’s not mine to carry right now.

If only we owned corporate media like the Republicans do, we could.

Golly, why would anyone blame Trump and the GOP for not being able to pass a simple bill?

Oh, that’s right – they control all three branches of government.

And Democrats are in “the minority”.

But, then again, math is hard for Republicans.

(And, apparently, for a lot of “journalists”.)

Interesting bit here:

Neither Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) nor House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) planned to attend the White House meeting, according to GOP aides, leaving Schumer in a position of relative influence.

Is this another Lucy and the football gambit? Who’ll be hiding under Trump’s desk?

Schadenfreude for Republicans now being the ones impeded by lots of American’s not understanding/caring that Senate doesn’t run entirely on majority-rule.
