Discussion: Police Won't Release Name Of Officer Who Shot Teen

Discussion for article #226321

If I were the Ferguson police, I’d seriously think of moving their boy somewhere safe. Like say Gaza or Donetsk.

How about “protective custody?”

Or “The Defendant”

St. Louis County police are leading the investigation into Brown’s death . . .

Exactly what does it take to bring the feds in?

The Ferguson police force has 53 officers, three of whom are black.
Jackson said the city has had trouble recruiting and retaining black
officers.

According to Wikipedia, Ferguson was 67.4% black at the last census. The police force is 94% white–and apparently, the kind of whites who are scared to death of young black guys.

There is no video or audio, but there are two corroborating eyewitness accounts, albeit the second only accounts for a small part of the confrontation.

They’re supposed to be on the case already.

The FBI is supposed to be there, but what their role is, is still unclear.

Holder is still in a “watching” state and hasn’t committed the DOJ to any investigation. This thing will be scrubbed by the local cops, then cleaned up a little by the county and/or state well before the DOJ gets a hold of it. Tensions will die down, and it will be right back to the same thing again…white cops targeting and bullying poor black neighborhoods.

In many ways, they are treating it like a prison riot, just trying to get all the inmates (local citizens) pack into their cells (homes), and even then still firing tear gas canisters directly at people in their own back yards. They put a cabash on news helicopters flying over the town, with thanks to the FAA declaring it a no fly zone.

Although they cite safety, I think the primary reason they haven’t released this police officer’s name yet is that they’re still scrubbing his social media footprint. Once the guy’s name is released, the entire country is going to Google him. It might not look very good if a search for this guy turns up some Facebook or blog posts that make him look like the monster the local community thinks he is.

The excuse I heard trotted out by the police chief there is that they have had trouble recruiting black people to join the force…

When your outreach consists of cruising through black neighborhoods looking for a confrontation and then gunning black people down, then yeah, I can see how you might have some trouble recruiting people.

God, has the Ferguson police chief handled this badly. Same for the St. Louis County police.

There are two eyewitnesses reporting excessive force at the very least. Probably murder. The cop was angry before the incident. What was going on in that guys life? Was he the regular patrol officer? Did he know Brown? If so, how?

Thousands of unanswered questions and the local police give every appearance that they are covering up.

The local media isn’t doing much to push those questions. Of course, the national media is just pushing its national agenda.

I suspect they are scrubbing everything, not just any social media comments he has made. They want him to be a clean as driven snow by the time they release the name…which probably won’t happen for several weeks at the very least.

They need to clean house on the entire police department there, from the top down. I am not holding my breath till that happens, however.

The local media is being shut out by the police department. No new copters in the sky, and reporters are being kept out of the area.

A federal crime. Murder, unless of a federal employee or on federally-owned land or in the commission of a crime that crosses state lines or somehow impacts interstate commerce, is an offense against state law and the feds have no jurisdiction. The FBI is investigating this as a possible violation of the Civil Rights Act, i.e., depriving Brown of his civil rights:

18 U.S.C. § 242 Deprivation of rights under color of law

Whoever, under color of any law, statute, ordinance, regulation, or custom, willfully subjects any person in any State, Territory, Commonwealth, Possession, or District to the deprivation of any rights, privileges, or immunities secured or protected by the Constitution or laws of the United States, or to different punishments, pains, or penalties, on account of such person being an alien, or by reason of his color, or race, than are prescribed for the punishment of citizens, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than one year, or both; and if bodily injury results from the acts committed in violation of this section or if such acts include the use, attempted use, or threatened use of a dangerous weapon, explosives, or fire, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both; and if death results from the acts committed in violation of this section or if such acts include kidnapping or an attempt to kidnap, aggravated sexual abuse, or an attempt to commit aggravated sexual abuse, or an attempt to kill, shall be fined under this title, or imprisoned for any term of years or for life, or both, or may be sentenced to death.

This statement is flat out false! The police put out an official version of events which was typical police cover story; it blamed the victim and it exculpated the police. And it included details in the allegations against the teen shot multiple times to death by the Ferguson cop.

"Investigators have released few details, saying only that a scuffle unfolded after the officer asked Brown and another teen to get out of the street. "

However, the police have not interviewed an eyewitness to the incident. The police do not have credibility.
