Given that the Kashoggi operation was seemingly discovered only because of his IPhone, I think they had every expectation that they could get away with it–I’m guessing that this isn’t the only example of the Saudi’s killing their citizens overseas. This may be yet another of many examples of Saudi crimes in other countries.

This was pretty obviously a murder, but let’s not start speculating about who did it. There are any number of mentally-ill people and various bad actors running around the world. I say let the police complete their investigation before we start pointing fingers.

Oh, I know. This is “The Internet” after all…
True, we have plenty of those in the white house and many more in the House of Saud.
No one is saying don’t do a thorough investigation, but the timing of the call from the Saudi Embassy, plus the manner of their death, being bound together, certainly suggests that this is not an ordinary, random act, so speculation is certainly warranted here. The typical murder by “any number of mentally-ill people and various bad actors” generally does not involve binding two victims together and throwing them in a river with no obvious signs of trauma.
I am not denying the possibility that the Saudis might be involved, I just prefer to wait before I pass judgment.
As Peggy Noonan famously said in a Wall St. Journal op ed¹: “Is it irresponsible to speculate? It is irresponsible not to.”
