Discussion: Police Investigating Texas Officer For Tasing 76-Year-Old Man (VIDEO)

C’mon, it’s Caitlin. That’s not her M.O. She’s the one who called Ben Edelman, the HBS prof in the news for threatening to sue over a $4 overcharge, “Sam” Edelman even through the article she was springboarding from had it correctly. She (or someone) eventually corrected it and added an update (http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/harvard-professor-apologizes-chinese-restaurant). Maybe she (or someone) will eventually get around to editing this one to make it comprehensible, just for the archives.

Editors took meth.

I’ve never been in contact with someone on meth, as far as I know, but I liked the description a teacher used when talking about meth use in workplaces. She said that meth users who remained functional tended to be really helpful and really incompetent.

Public trust is extremely important to us

The public trust includes a presumption of innocence, a right to personal liberty, and equality under the law. The public trust does not include covering your own ass, denying any wrongdoing you’ve performed, and deflecting personal responsibility when you screw up.

Age is not relevant. Had this guy just robbed a bank, raped someone, etc., the police have very right to ignore his age and treat him like any criminal. The issue here is that this guy did NOTHING that even warranted a summons, never mind a “crime”.

Cop should be fired immediately, but the union will of course stand by him… He’ll be on paid leave.

No kidding…

I’m glad the the employer kept talking and arguing with the cop. I know it didn’t stop the abuse but it might help get the cop in trouble.

Sue the panties off of them!

It sounds as though Victoria County District Attorney Steve Tyler is seriously considering prosecuting the officer. Unlike the cop-friendly DAs in Ferguson and Staten Island, Tyler has a history of challenging the police. That’s what needs to happen. There’s no other deterrence for bad cops. Police unions are too powerful, and taxpayers foot the bill for civil lawsuits.

What a HORRIBLE police officer - this is the type of behavior that gives ALL cops a bad name. This cop needs desk duty, sensitivity training and a full mental health review.

WOW - the old guy is 76 was not acting threatening in ANY WAY and to be thrown to the ground and tasered is beyond the pail.

Watch the end of the attack where the cop is chomping a wad of gum while tazing the old man. The cop looks like he is playing a video game.

A white guy would have had a chance to explain. A black guy would have been shot. A guess a taser is the “happy medium” for Hispanics.

These are not trivial mistakes, either. Particularly in the case of “exempted from exemption”, it’s hard to figure out what the sentence even means.

The AARP will be demonstrating at 3:00 PM, then breaking for supper at 4:00.

Fortunately “called for” is not your call. There is no reason to critique grammar or spelling in someones work other than to be a cvhickenshit snark. You and your buddy are not editors here nor are you wanted as such. Start your own blog,…but before doing so take a course in communications. One of the first things you’ll learn is NOT to criticize the style or structure of someones work but to LISTEN and try to get their message. It’s been a “no no” since the appearance of the first blog to criticize typos and grammar. It not a part of the environment blogs live in. .

All that aside its just chickenshit as hell to cloak yourself is sanctimony and critic the assembly of someones words. Fuck that…and fuck the folks that do it. Read the bit or don’t but for God’s sake keep your snark to yourself. If the bit is vague or incoherent ask the author to clarify. If a t is not crossed try to be big enough to stay quite and NOT take the cheap shot. And by the way ace…everyone saw the errors. The difference between folks like your buddy and the rest of us is we understood what was being communicated and lack the pettiness to take a cheap shot.

By the way sniffit…where is your blog? Where is your buddies blog? Lets have a look. Or are you a “blogless” critic of other blogs? Now dig in “my friend”…I was reared speaking Spanish and Dutch so my English is far from perfect. See what you can get.

I’m off to the Amazon…no internet for me for a few days. Thank God.

Well, on the positive side, the remainder of his retirement will be funded by the settlement he receives from his local police force…

Is that police officer really listening to music on the radio in his patrol car? What kind of Barney Fife amateur hour is that?

Why was he trying to arrest him for an expired inspection sticker? Isn’t something like that a ticket or, at worst, an impound?

Actually, it depends on the competence of the person to begin with. An idiot on meth is still an idiot. An intelligent person on meth is, until they’ve crossed that line, is alert and productive. WWII bomber pilots didn’t all of a sudden forget how to fly once they were dosed.

Horseshit. The cop used excessive force on an elderly man. Were I his son I’d have reacted the same way. That would be protecting a family member against bodily harm and completely in line with what the POS cop did. This fucker deserves to be fired.

Also, not having their fee fees hurt. Extremely important to them.
