Mike Pence would have to pull out every stop, use every trick in his book in order to persuade a newspaper to lay flat on a table.
This is pitiful.
If Trump would agree to sign legislation handcuffing future emergency declarations, it could help the White House reduce opposition among GOP senators to his border emergency declaration in Thursday’s vote.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., told reporters that Republicans are “looking at ways to revisit the law” on emergency declarations, which was enacted in 1976.
Translation: “We’ll give you this one, so make the most of it. And we’ll make sure a Democratic administration can’t ever do the same thing for gun control, climate change, etc.”
Mitch, we’re not that stupid. Dems shouldn’t support this “new” amendment unless the current NE is voided by the Senate. You won’t do that? Fine, get ready for some real progress on gun control, climate change…
Someone on the Twitters said that this bill would pass by 1 vote. That all the posturing and furrowed brows of GOP commie senators would crumble so this must be just part of that farce.
I am at a loss as to how this is news. Of course WH officials meet privately with Congress in attempt to sway their vote. Happens all the time.
Is the news, in fact, that Pence, the department store mannequin, actually did something?
genius negotiator deal-maker 2.0
I don’t think so. lol
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., told reporters that Republicans are “looking at ways to revisit the law” on emergency declarations[...]. He said the proposed measure would apply “prospectively,” not to Trump’s current border emergency.
Jeez, Mitch, just say it – “this would only apply to Democratic administrations,” much like the ability to have SCOTUS and other judicial nominations considered.
You’ve played hard, but North Carolina and Wisconsin are starting to get ahead of you. Raise your game, man!
“If Trump would agree to sign legislation handcuffing future emergency declarations, it could help the White House reduce opposition among GOP senators to his border emergency declaration in Thursday’s vote.”
He’s not signing that and he’d be stupid if he did.
What an utter waste of time, all due to Trump’s NPD. Even if the Republican Senate votes to block the “national emergency”, Trump can veto the bill anyway. But he just can’t stand to take a temporary loss.
What’s Pence going to do when the Courts reject it? Give them an extra stern look?
Yes. It would handcuff him going forward too. Even he can see that.
They should take Pence to a massage parlor in Florida, might change his outlook of life.
He’s an errand boy, sent by grocery clerks, to collect a bill.
Pence, the chief piano player in the bordello presidency.
Mike Pence, aka Li’l Lickspittle.
Well, if there is one thing that gives me hope it’s republicans crying “Save us Mike Pence!”
hey now, he’s good at holding doors open to vehicles so 45* can go vroom vroom
Oh, I think McConnell is playing the tune. Pence knocks on the doors calling ‘time’.
“GOP Sens. Mike Lee of Utah and Todd Young of Indiana were also in discussions with the White House about related legislation that would curb the ability of future presidents to declare national emergencies.”
“We’re trying to make sure we get to do it when we want, but then prevent any future Dem from doing it, because we know it’s horribly wrong, but we want it want it want it want it want it and the country is turning too brown, so we’ve gotta get it.”
DOA in the House.
ETA: I suspect they know this. I’m guessing they maybe think this gives them a chance to send a message to their angry white Christian nationalist racist douchebag constituents that “I’m totally willing to vote yes for a power-abusing white fright national emergency declaration as long as we and Dear Leader are the only ones who get to do it” and then vote against it when it’s a situation in which they can say they can’t go on record voting in a way that would result in a Dem being able to do it later.
Pence is held in contempt by literally everyone.
That’s because NOBODY likes a used Q-Tip.
