That ole Pence magic has its usual effect . . . none (unless one counts the yawning).
It is interesting how desperately Trump wants the resolution to overturn his emergency declaration to fail in the Senate. One would think that he would be eager to assert the power of his veto pen. (Perhaps even he understands that it really undermines the validity of his pronouncement, and risks a negative judgement in the courts.)
Though I have an idea, I really don’t understand why they’re handling this now. The moment should have been when he was either excited or thinking about this and not after he again broke one of the ‘seals’.
That old Pence magic is an ineffective spell,
That old Pence magic that will underwhelm.
Icy Eyes
Staring out at you -
The same old Pence that colludes a time or two.
The next emergency Trump is interested in is the one scheduled for October 2020, which regrettably requires the election to be postponed until an undefined time in the ‘near-but-not-yet’ future.
Well, if I were Trump (which heaven forfend) I’d find it ominous that I didn’t have enough sway to get my will done in either chamber. As a guy who’s caused spectacular failures for himself all his life you have to think he lies awake thinking about impeachment. Who knows what’s the next scandal to break? Who knows how appalling it might be? What we know is appalling enough.
If Trump would agree to sign legislation handcuffing future emergency declarations, it could help the White House reduce opposition among GOP senators to his border emergency declaration in Thursday’s vote.
How is that not a contemptible proposal?
It sounds like an abusive spouse’s promise to be better tomorrow.
The only really important piece of information isn’t in the article. In his negotiations, does Pence let the Senators rub his head and mess up his hair? Or is that off bounds even with the permission and presence of his wife?
“So…if you gives me a Hamburger today, I’ll pays you next Tuesday - Promise !” Seems like we’ve heard this line before in a PopEye cartoon. Why does anyone think this is a serious proposal ? Either Trump won’t sign it, OR if the Senate passes it, Pelosi will insist it include an amendment to make it retroactive to the beginning of the fiscal year for the House to even bring it to the floor for a vote.
These guys are in La-La land on all this happy horse$hit.
This is the first domestic legislative measure with some political salience where the GOP has been drifting from Trump. All McConnell will guarantee is that there won’t be a supermajority vote against it.
Trump continues to lobby to keep the defections down, so we’ll see where this goes.
