Discussion: Pence Can't Think Of Examples Justifying New Anti-Gay Religious Freedom Law

Discussion for article #234740

Same as for voter ID laws - no real justification or need, but let’s pass these laws “just in case.”

“No real justification” = I want to run for president by making gays out to be villains.

“Earlier in the day Pence signed into law legislation barring the state from requiring businesses to serve gay and lesbian people if those businesses had religious objections.”

Would these businesses still receive all the benefits the state government (supported by all law-abiding taxpayers) provides, like infrastructure, tax breaks, and the like? Why should those businesses be able to pick and choose which of those law-abiding citizens they can serve?

Shorter Pence “I am not really a bigot, I just have to suck up to bigots if I am going to run for President. Somebody told me I had to sign it so I signed it. Work, work, work. It is hard being governor. Girls” I think Pence is about to discover the price of being pushed around by bigots.

Asshole. This man has no business being a Governor.

Just had a strong hankering to go on record with our intense hatred for gays & give ourselves permission to abuse them.

Make bigots out themselves. Require any business that won’t provide services to LGBT people to state so publicly, by adding an amendment to the law that says:

“Any person not wanting to participate in any of the activities based on sexual orientation, gender identity or race of either party to the marriage shall post notice of such refusal in a manner clearly visible to the public in all places of business, including websites.”

I wonder if this will even be covered by the nightly news on ABC, NBC or CBS? Last night’s CBS evening news had a story about some idiot who climbed a tower on top of a skyscraper in Hong Kong and took some pictures.

So much for hard hitting news.

TPM:

Indiana Gov. Mike Pence ÂŽ was pressed by conservative radio host if something happened in Indiana to justify signing an anti-gay religious freedom bill into law.

“Nope,” Gov. Pence replied. “We just don’t like teh gays.”

Pence said he wasn’t aware of any recent examples.
‘I’m not aware of cases and controversies.’

You could not concoct a more vapid reasoning to deny civil rights to law abiding U.S. citizens.

“This is about restraining government action, Greg,” Pence said.

Yep, it’s about restraining the gov’t from protecting citizens that bigots don’t like; i.e., it’s about denying the protections of the law from a class of people because you don’t like who they love.

You’re a real piece of work, Pence. How long before you decide that Blacks, Hispanics, Jews, Muslims, and Papists can also be discriminated against?

"This is about restraining government action, Greg," Pence said.

He said as he signed legislation which allows the government to restrain who can and cannot be served.

Just curious - does anyone know if this means Indiana can’t force a member of the faculty to teach a student whose beliefs conflict with the professor’s beliefs? Kind of cool really, if you have tenure.

I wonder if there are any atheists who are offended by superstition? Or are you out of luck getting relief from this law unless you are Christian?

It’s about making sure that Hoosiers have the same protections in our state courts as they have in federal courts and as 30 other states have.

Unless your LGBT.
