But isn’t support for impeachment rising? Could it be that some of that increase is because of the Democrats’ good cop/bad cop approach?
Has CNN been asking Republicans why they are still backing Trump despite his remarks on accepting foreign help? What about TPM? Didn’t think so. Is this really a Democratic problem?
No. It’s more like opposition to the Iraq War. It’s rising in spite of leadership not because of it.
Mitch McConnell took the same damn oath. Why don’t you hold him accountable?
I’m thinking of changing my avatar to Donna Brazile, Champion of Democracy and Fair Play.
Would that be preferable?
I don’t think anyone who posts here cares about her one way or the other, so knock yourself out. Nobody cares. That you think she’s still someone anyone really gets worked up about, again suggests you haven’t spent much time here.
The only data required is the public opinion polls. Impeachment is a political process. The polling does seem to be shifting…and we have time to try to maximize that. The rest of the arguments are pretty much structural/systemic.
And to be clear, I am not against impeachment under any circumstances. I’m just against impeachment “right now” or “too soon.”
I’ll keep it in mind that you’ve written that and try to remember to read it when I have a chance. For whatever reason, I haven’t spent any time using the Hive features yet.
Isn’t it funny that the commenter who downplayed the Trump-Russia investigation — in favor of the Hillary was the worst ever, a no good awful campaigner, that’s why she lost.period.end of story theory — is now attacking Democratic leadership for not pursuing impeachment?
I don’t think summer is a good time to launch impeachment either. America already has a serious case of ADHD, but it’s even worse in the summer. We need people listening and paying attention. We’ll have a better chance of accomplishing that in the fall.
Impeachment hearings are not going to take months on end in the House. Once they start, we’re talking 8 weeks or so.
Then it goes to the Senate, where the Polio Turtle can decide whether he wants to drag out the pain of a failed impeachment trial so he can maximize the “Trump wins again, libs get owned again” nonsense and really work it into a pro-Trump festival of bullshit…or he can just try to get it over with lickity-split so that there’s no longer impeachment on the table during 2020, it’s all over during the meat of the campaign and the overwhelming message is that Trump won, there’s nothing more to talk about and why aren’t you talking about what’s important to the American people like the economy and health care and blah blah blah?
But that’s debatable. Apparently something is working to increase support, maybe it’s the desire to not have impeachment seem partisan and political, but inevitable.
Whatever it is, I hope they keep up the pressure.
They are two examples of failure and incompetence - the first was HRC’s campaign, the second is the failed attempt to oust Trump through impeachment. These two events are not in opposition. Goals not achieved.
If you’re gonna stan for the incel bloc you may as well switch it up and go for Andrew Yang. Bernie is so 2016.
What does this even mean?
There hasn’t been an attempt. What are you talking about? LOL
Actually, the polling that shows people who are NOT Dems slowly shifting towards impeachment, which suggests that the slower approach of continuing to investigate, handing Trump rope and attempting to get more information and education out there IS in fact working.
I haven’t seen a poll directly asking Dems whether they think Pelosi’s strategy is working or not. Moreover, I don’t agree that polling showing a majority of Dems want impeachment is to be interpreted as a majority also saying that Pelosi’s strategy isn’t working. Polls don’t ask WHEN they want it.
What’s more, who fucking cares if active, politically aware Dems want impeachment? They’re not who we need to convince. And if they want to tantrum about it and not vote or vote Green or some shit because they’re butthurt, then so be it, because I’ve about fucking had it with the “we just won’t vote” or “we’ll throw or vote away on some scrub” crowd and the argument that we have to pander to extremists/radicals or one-issue voters in our own ranks just to mollify their angry demands. They can either start acting like fucking adults and get on board with fixing everything or fuck off and stop causing so much infighting and circular firing squad crap.
Impeachment isn’t for the base.
ETA: And does anyone really think that the trial portion in the Senate isn’t going to be more about putting the FBI and Obama administration on trial than it is about Trump’s impeachment? If you do, than you’re nuts.
The thing to keep in mind is that Pelosi has introduced something into the impeachment equation which was not present in the prior examples: a threshold of public support before even green lighting an inquiry. That’s my focus. Despite that impeachment support is substantially higher at the pre-inquiry phase than the other prior 2 impeachments where we have data. I see little value to Pelosi maintaining this current position.
A “stan” (etymology: the Eminem song) is a popular internet culture term for an obsessive fan. There’s two democratic candidates in particular that seem to attract and inspire casual-to-hardcore misogynists online — think 4chan — and that’s Bernie and Yang. These misogynists sometimes identify as incels, or “involuntarily celibates”, a supposed badge of honor in darker corners of the Internet for [mostly young] men who become radicalized and bitter because they don’t know how to process their emotions or interact with humanity in a healthy way; they glamorize toxic masculinity. There was a lot of that going on in social media in 2016. And still is. Anyway, if I see a guy who is still going hard for Bernie over other current options like Warren, I tend to make assumptions. Especially if that guy is going on about Hillary and Donna Brazile in 2019. It’s similar to how a guy who says “not all men” is telling on himself.
Which one?
