Impeachment was on the ballot last November.

Mmm… don’t know what level this is on. But at level one, taking her at her word, I think her stance is somewhat offensive to people who are suffering under this corrupt administration.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! It IS necessary, Nancy! The only thing that gives me hope is that she hedged it there at the end. Maybe she knows more than she can say now and is waiting for it to come out. Let’s hope so.

ETA: OK, I’ve calmed down from my initial, emotional reaction. Thanks for keeping me grounded, everyone.

“And he’s just not worth it” is not the correct calculus.

The hedge, i.e. unless there’s something so compelling and overwhelming and bipartisan, is THE most important part of her statement.

How about a resolution about impeachment?

But since you asked, and I’ve been thinking about this: Impeachment is so divisive to the country that unless there’s something so compelling and overwhelming and bipartisan, I don’t think we should go down that path, because it divides the country. And he’s just not worth it.

I am 2000% for impeachment, but I recognize it is because I loathe the asshole with the heat of a thousand suns. But I accept what Pelosi says as reality.

The bottom line -Trump will be gone, but his base is still going to be there. That is the problem.

I expected nothing else from “[GWB] Impeachment is off the table” Pelosi.

Buttigieg’s view on impeachment is very similar. From last night’s town hall -

“I would like to see this president and the style of politics that he represents sent off through the electoral process, decisively defeated at the ballot box…Now, having said that, these investigations may return information that Congress just morally can’t ignore, and it may well be the case that they’re left with no choice, just in the name of justice, than to begin impeachment proceedings. And obviously, they’ll have to make that determination probably quite soon.”

Pelosi saying “I’m for Impeachment” is the GOP’s Rapture event…especially the Kray Cray

Would have been nice to hear what she had to say about his proposed budget’s execrable cuts to the safety net as well. This is from two hours ago.

Meanwhile, here we sit babbling about the pipe dream of impeachment.

I’m really hoping this means she’s setting a very high bar for impeachment proceedings now, so that when the Mueller report comes out (or some other investigation), she says, “oh wow, I had no idea it was this bad. We have no option but to remove him.” We’ll see.

No it was not. The vast bulk of new candidates who won - in purple or even red districts - and represented the majority said that they would be a “check” on Trump. Most avoided talking about impeachment, which polls in the 30s right now.

Pelosi has it 110% right:

“unless there’s something so compelling and overwhelming and bipartisan, I don’t think we should go down that path, because it divides the country. And he’s just not worth it.”

You don’t push something that 50+% of the Country does not want, and would then fail in the Senate. See Newt c1998.

Pelosi needs to resign and retire.

She’s copying McConnell on dereliction of duty! Impeachment is a political action…she needs to read up.

Pelosi is too old, too rich, and too Republican to be speak…Repukes aren’t the majority. Pelosi prevented Obama from accomplishing thins in his 1st two years…and now she’s enabling Trump like she’s McConnell’s cousin.

Since there is zero chance that Trump is convicted in the Senate, she doesn’t want to give Trump “another great win”. Of course if she sees big crowds demanding impeachment and national polls to support it , then she can say “Is not that I want it, but that that the country demands it”.

I think this was put inelegantly by Nancy. I would rather my representatives not be for or against impeachment just based on how divisive it might be. Being for or against impeachment must hinge on the evidence. We don’t even have the damn Mueller report! A better answer would be “I’m not for impeachment based on what I know now. I am looking forward to the Mueller report and other ongoing investigations into the president to determine if there are crimes worthy of impeachment.”

You can’t say often enough that statements from Washington people have to be interpreted. You can’t take them at face value. Nancy’s saying she’d impeach the bastard in one red hot second if the political conditions were there to guarantee removal. We’re not there yet. We all know that. We have conditions now that are promising for removal by electoral defeat. It would be folly to mess that up with a quixotic impeachment. Ethics and emotions don’t matter–the outcome is the only thing. For God’s sake has she proved herself, or not? She’s not against impeachment. She’s against shooting our republic in its foot and seeing it bleed to death.

Yup. She knows if she says she’s for impeachment it’s throwing gasoline on the Republican self-immolating base.

She knows the needle to be threaded is the oversight hearings and investigations will result in Court of Public Opinion (and that’s not us since we’re up to speed on this) results in such anger that Senate Rs and some Rs not in the Freedom Caucus feel the heat.
