Discussion: Pelosi: 'I'm Not For Impeachment'

I think we have to take Pelosi at her word. I don’t think she’s vocalizing this now and will then change her mind about impeachment. It’s too bad, but I do understand, so instead could we just strap him to a rocket and send it to the stratosphere?

And it will be again this November, just not in lights. The oversight that the House is doing is impeachment in everything but name - if he still gets elected after this then the U.S. is done for.

I have to agree. Until the Dems have 67+ members in the Senate to convict, it’s pointless. I would rather see endless, incriminating investigations that will drive Donny off the deep end and make Republicans have to hide under their desks rather than try to defend his fat ass, especially with a national election next year.

If, however, these investigations, and the Mueller probe, uncover irrefutable evidence of massive, coordinated corruption, and also conspiracy with a foreign government to win the 2016 election (which also dovetails into Trump’s lame foreign policy decisions, which seem to be almost dictated by Putin himself), then I say there is no choice but to impeach. And then the Republicans in the Senate can show their true colors during the vote for conviction on the charges of impeachment: party over country, ad infinitum.

Completely agree. “Unless there’s something so compelling and overwhelming and bipartisan” has always been the standard. Frankly, it just appears to be a somewhat different way of saying what she has maintained all along: “wait for evidence.”

Is there enough now? Probably yes to get him impeached by the House and probably no to get 67 votes to have him removed by this Senate. That is the reality of the situation.

At its core, impeachment is a political act, and the Speaker is making a valid political calculation.

Now, if evidence appears from either Mueller or the House committees that directly implicates him in a crime, then that presents a different circumstance and impeachment would have to be evaluated in light of that new evidence. Seems reasonable.

Nancy can count votes. They aren’t there. The Senate has become the Cult of Trump. Not even the golden shower tape would budge them.

She just took the talking points away from the Fox News cycle and talking bobble heads. She just helped ensure the integrity of the Congress Oversight Hearings. Now they need a new excuse to rage against.

The “hide under their desks” is coming. And it’s coming because of their own corruption and compromise.

Dragging him in investigation after house investigation, letting the SDNY, Sate of NY and Mueller grind away over the next year and a half works for me.

“Repukes” are the majority in the Senate, where it counts. Did you miss School House Rock?

By the time we’re finished with Trump he is going to wish he had never come down that escalator.

Same. I’m hoping that’s the calculus. There is nothing stopping her from saying at a later date,“This is far worse than I previously thought. I was completely against impeachment, but now that I’ve seen all the evidence…”

Also, I’m not sold on impeachment being the remedy for the larger problem at this point either. I want him to run and lose handily. I want the Democratic nominee to get 400+ EVs and have long, flowing coattails that brings with them a whole slew of down ballot races as well as the Senate and cements our grip on the House for a generation. I want Trumpism overwhelmingly defeated by the voters in such a way that even your Trumpiest neighbors are scrapping their MAGA stickers off their bumper stickers the very next morning after the election.

Just about everything that has been revealed is overwhelming, and should be judged by a bipartisan group, but republicans will never, ever work with democrats again. They don’t care. To them, democrats and liberals are the hated enemy, and they’ll never work with us to achieve any goal.

Waiting around for permission from McConnell and his Owners is not a good strategy. It’s chickenshit cowardice. Just as it was with Bush2/Cheney and their invented war and their real torture and their actual treason.

Yea, she could be right in thinking impeachment could make him more popular and push republicans further right, it won’t change anything on the left. News media would be all over the impeachment and while it seems almost impossible for them to ignore the positive things Dems are doing like HR 1 even more, it could happen during impeachment.

But I agree with you, it’s pretty insulting to everyone hurt by his many already impeachable acts.

I don’t really get it, seems like the system is broken if he’s not impeached but I also don’t think much about it.

…so, the Mueller report is that milquetoast, eh?

I think she’d change her tune if something happens that brings Republicans on board. But there’s not a ton to be gained going through an impeachment doomed to fail in the Senate when we have an election in less than two years.

He may not be worth it, but our country is.

Look, folks, she introduced the topic. She volunteered this.

Why not shut up? Why introduce this statement?
Why not wait for Mueller’s report?

If she isn’t against rank, blatant, in your face criminality, then who the fuck cares?

This is corrupt.

I could very wrong, but I think her point is she will not kill the Democratic party to save Republicans.

It is putting Republicans on notice. Not going there because the Republican party insisted to not go there puts keeps Trump’s stain on them. The Democrats get to investigate and investigate and investigate. This could go 10 years, because that is just how much corruption exists. There is a new scandal every day it seems.

That said, the GOP is not likely to fully wrap its head around that.
