Discussion for article #237812
Well what about the amendments that takes training money from Medicare, or the indications that there is no protection for the displaced workers? How many of the Democrats in favor are supported by the big corporations in their states, but are totally deaf to the concerns of the citizens that are risk of losing their jobs. Again some Democrats are really hard to tell if they are shadow GOP corporate lackeys.
It is really hard to tell in politics today without a program describing the game of the day. Whose on first?
"We were really pleased to see President Obama pursue an idea we've long believed in," said McConnell, R-Ky. "We thank him for his efforts to help us pass a bill to advance it."
Good news for the corporatists!
This is no longer the case.

President Obama supports this deal. Sometimes he’s right; sometimes he’s wrong.
My Senator-for-Life, Orrin Hatch, supports this deal. Hatch has never been right about anything in his life. He’s Bill Kristolesque in his wrongness.
What can we glean from this? Based on Hatch’s support, I can only conclude that this trade agreement is horrible and this time, President Obama is very, very wrong.
“We were really pleased to see President Obama pursue an idea we’ve long believed in,” said McConnell, R-Ky. “We thank him for his efforts to help us pass a bill to advance it.”
OMDog, I’ll bet that just about killed McConnell to spit that out.
Some anti-free-trade Democrats ...
That’s a pretty loaded way to characterize people who oppose the TPP or fast-tracking it. I think of them less as anti-free-trade and more as anti-giving-away-the-store-and-American-jobs-to-Multi-Billionaires-and-other-Countries.
Thank you! You described my feelings on this topic/issue perfectly.
Obama did this because as we all well know, he’s a hardcore socialist.
Fuck the democrats! If they want to act like the republi-tards, then they can be replaced by the republi-tards in 2016!
The other day Sen. Diane Feinstein said that the characterization of TPP is a boon only to big business was inaccurate: that in her home state of California about 95 percent of foreign trade is conducted by firms with fewer than 500 employees.
She did note that a key to a good trade deal were strong, enforceable standards and enough resources behind enforcement.
Nothing – until we see the TPP draft. But based on Obama’s pro-worker record, I’m leaning toward confidence.
Like Senator Stern pinning a medal on Tony Stark.
Obama’s pro-worker record? You mean how he put on his comfortable shoes and marched with the workers against the union busters in Wisconsin?
Ask Richard Trumka how much he loves Obama’s pro-worker record.
MY feelings are that there are some serious passive-aggressives issues in the answers being put out by all parties.
I don’t think the Dems have much choice at this point, but I would have held out for a big infrastructure bill to go along with this worker protection bill., If America is going to compete with China it needs a 21st century infrastructure.
I tend to agree. I suspect there’s a lot of horse(shit) trading going on behind closed doors. I know the TPP is going to happen. The biggest question is will we–and any other nation–have strong rights to ward off frivolous and unfair lawsuits by corporations, etc., claiming that our environmental laws, for example, (present and future) hurt their promised/implied profits, etc.? Same question can be applied to worker or safety rights, land use laws in the varying states, etc.
That and, though it’s not really related–but that never stops the GOP–I’d have forced the House GOP to reverse their little SSDI/SSOAR funding rules change from January. In six months, my income (SSDI) will plummet by around 20% or more. I pay full rent–which is over half my SSDI–and receive no other assistance. I already struggle the first half of every year due to medical copays. My landlord has already informed me they can’t help (even though they receive HUD funding for this building, but it is still one-third for-profit). Literally, I am up shit creek. I hate Republicans for their totally throwing me and others like out on the street starting early next year.
No, he’s damning with feigned praise. He knows a large chunk of the Democratic base wants to kill the deal.
And what would it have accomplished if Walker was able to say President Obama was muscling in on a state recall election. And by the way, Obama never said he’d put the shoes on for a recall election but would support strikers.
And Obama rescued the auto industry and many other firms in that supply chain, extended unemployment insurance for laid-off workers, and provided affordable healthcare coverage to workers without it.
How much help was the AFL-CIO in the 2010 and 2014 elections? Did they support his pro-worker agenda, or did they sit on their hands because Obama didn’t single-handedly pass card-check or give them a special break re Cadillac healthcare coverage?
