Handled with style, grace and compassion.

I feel for the family. Can’t imagine what they are going through now.

Trump would have said something as emphatic, given the chance.

Except he didn’t.

"How our son was attracted to such darkness is a terrifying mystery to us, though we are confident that law enforcement will uncover many details of the path that he took to this evil and despicable act.”

Well said.

And they also hint at the breadcrumbs to follow…

“Our son’s actions were informed by people we do not know, and ideas we do not hold. Like our other five children, he was raised in a family, a faith and a community that all rejected hate and taught that love must be the motive for everything we do. How our son was attracted to such darkness is a terrifying mystery to us, though we are confident that law enforcement will uncover many details of the path that he took to this evil and despicable act.”

I’ve a (slight) problem with this part, but let’s see what happens…

The breadcrumbs that will lead to 8chan.

That sewer needs to be shut down.

With Tree of Life, the term “Synagogue Shooting” entered our vocabulary for the first time.

With Poway – exactly six months to the day – the term “Another Synagogue Shooting” entered it.

Not even a full year passed from that shocking initial vocabulary entry to its inevitable successor.

This is what our political “leaders” have allowed to become The New Normal, post-2016.

The people who “led” us through this deplorable period will have a lot to answer for one day.

I do not in any way condemn the parents. How horrible it must be to condemn your son.

With England almost invaded in 1940, a Naval Officer was discussing with some British counterparts the state of America’s war planning (which, at the time seemed to be not good enough for Brits).

British Officer: “But your Congress…Surely they can see the need. Surely they cannot let us go under.
Don’t you believe that they will help us?”

American Officer: “They vote their political hunches to save their political hides”

They were/are fairly similar in “courage” to this day. As long as there is a segment of America in which there is on automatic zeal to support GOP candidates, a segment of America which does not pay attention, and a segment of America which makes the perfect the enemy of the good, our “leaders” (read: reflections of our own inadequacies and flaws as voters) will do what they do.

Do not misunderstand me. Nadler, Pelosi and co. and doing the best they can…but, given the criminality and insanity of the Trump Administration, we should have picked up 100 House seats AND the Senate.

There are simply too many people for whom being a Russian asset is better that being a Democrat…and that is why we are far weaker than any normal person would surmise us to be.

No, Trump is only able to read prepared propaganda from his shills pretending to emphatic. Beyond that he can only rant and make accusations.

Bottom line, Trump is completely incapable of empathy and genuine sorrow. Pretty sad state of affairs for someone who claims to be our nation’s leader.

Trump would have said the people the son was influenced by were “fine people.” They just wouldn’t have gone that far.

Unfortunately they probably never will.

My sister is an accomplished photographer and interior designer. She was raised in a liberal family. My parents took me to see MLK on the mall for his “I have a dream” speech. We were the only family in an all white neighborhood that welcomed the first black family that moved in.
In 2008, when Obama was elected, something snapped. Her Facebook rants are legend among those that know her. Bad stuff. No suggestions of violence, but really racist bullshit. We’ve all disowned her, no comunications at all. I wouldn’t let her in my front door if she was fleeing violence in the street in front of us. Ostracism and shunning need employed more often, but I do my part.
I did forward a lot of stuff to the Secret Service, just to have it on record should I get a call one day demanding to know why I didn’t “do more”.

So yeah, sometimes this stuff comes from way out of left field. People flip out. I’ve seen it, personally. Weird stuff.

It sometimes does n sometimes doesn’t.

Anything is possible in this era and it was the same beforehand. The problem that I have with that statement is that it read like a ‘my dog doesn’t bite’ announcement and I think that maybe bothers me more.

Yes…I have been reading about the ‘isolationists’ at the beginning of WWII and how willing they were to throw Britain under the bus. Incredible.

Exactly. Bless their hearts.

They are now stuck forever in a hell not of their own making, as are all families of murders, mass or otherwise. I cannot imagine it.

I have an acquaintance who’s highly educated, a mainstream Protestant clergyman, and a Holocaust denier. There’s some sort of psycho-emotional switch that gets thrown in people and they’re soon down this path and some never find their way back. I think if it were studied by people with expertise in obsession and addiction we might learn more. But there doesn’t seem to be any quality like intelligence, education, upbringing or anything else that can be counted on to prevent it.
