Discussion: Panetta: Trump 'Forgot That He Was President' In Off-The-Rails Speech At CIA

""While President Donald Trump brags about how hundreds of CIA employees gave him standing ovations during his Saturday visit, it should not have come as a surprise.

He never told them to sit.

The 400 agency staffers were standing when Trump entered the room, were still standing when he came to the lectern, and then remained standing through his 15 minutes of remarks.

ā€œYou know that the CIA will not sit down until the president tells them to,ā€ said Yael Eisenstat, who spent more than half of her 13-year career in counterterrorism and intelligence work at the agency.

On Sunday morning, Trump tweeted: ā€œHad a great meeting at CIA Headquarters yesterday, packed house, paid great respect to Wall, long standing ovations, amazing people. WIN!ā€

Itā€™s unclear whether the new president understood that federal employees, regardless of the agency ā€• but particularly in national security fields ā€• will likely remain standing until he tells them otherwise. Military audiences, in the presence of their commander in chief, will absolutely remaining standing until instructed to sit.

ā€œIā€™m amazed by the fact that he doesnā€™t understand basic protocol,ā€ said Rick Wilson, a former Pentagon staffer with a background in military intelligence. ā€œThereā€™s no Miss Manners in this group. Thereā€™s no one telling him, ā€˜Hereā€™s what you need to do.ā€™ā€

Even more offensive to many in the intelligence world than Trumpā€™s lack of understanding about protocol, though, was the content of his remarks ā€• a rambling, campaign-style speech that attacked the news media for their coverage of the inauguration, a boast about his own intellect, and a claim that almost everyone in the room had voted for him ā€• all of it while standing in front of a memorial wall honoring the 117 CIA agents who have died in the line of duty over the decades.

ā€œUnbelievable,ā€ Wilson said. ā€œItā€™s like going to do standup in Arlington Cemetery. I know how much that wall means to the people in the agency. I know how sacred that space is. It was a graceless display.ā€"

Weā€™ll have to cut Trump some slack. Being a lowly POTUS must seem so trivial next to his day time occupation as God-Emperor of the Known Universe!

Iā€™m trying to forget heā€™s president. You know, that guy with the nuclear codes!

ā€œI just got the impression when he was speaking there that somehow he forgot that he was president of the United States,ā€ Panetta said.

I just got the impression that heā€™s a dumb, classless hillbilly who shouldnā€™t be allowed anywhere near the White House.

Again, Trump displayed what is commonly known as "conduct unbecoming."

The attempts to take credit for Obamacare through minor tweaking and changing the name have now begun (told ya so haha)ā€¦

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2017/01/23/gop-senators-unveil-obamacare-replacement-bill.html

ā€œAmong the highlights of the plan are measures allowing states to continue to offer ObamaCareā€¦ā€

ā€œCassidy made clear the bill ā€“ particularly the option to stay on ObamaCare ā€“ was created with the intent to win support from Senate Democratsā€¦ā€

So, basically, itā€™s more have your cake and eat it too bullshit. Theyā€™ll claim theyā€™re repealing and replacing it when talking to the public about why they should be given all the credit for the ā€œnewā€ plan, but when it comes to why should the democrats ā€œstop obstructing it and playing partisan politicsā€ theyā€™ll be talking all about how it allows people to keep their Obamacare.

Again, the only response any Democrat should be giving is ā€œgo fuck yourselvesā€¦we like the ACA and if you donā€™t, then repeal it and replace it and OWN your disaster.ā€

Trump: As far as I am concerned, Obama will always The President. I am just an excellent campaigner/liar, always competing against Hillary.

Why go with a plan which is ā€œImperfectā€?

Not sure what youā€™re asking me here.

Unfortunately, any expectation that Trump will realize that as President, CIA Headquarters (or any other public location, for that matter) is ā€œ. . .not the appropriate place to start whining about what was happening in terms of numbers at the inauguration and what have you.ā€ Trump is incapable of seeing anything outside the narrow prism of his own grandiosity and that anyone else around him is, by definition, his inferior. He is incapable of humility and self-deprication. As President, this is all a formula for disaster.

Not versed in presidential protocol - or even basic manners (or perhaps leaving the female behind is the new chivalry).

Hmmm ā€¦

First, Sniffit, bless your heart (in the good way) for venturing over to Fox Entertainment to retrieve this item for us.

Second, the only difference I can tell in their plan from the ACA is they would implement health savings accounts ā€¦ which there is nothing prohibiting individuals (now) from putting whatever they want in a savings account and use it for healthcare. So, BFD, Senator Collins ā€“ this is a very minor tweak to the current ACA law. Iā€™m going to assumeā€“perhaps this is giving her and her colleagues too much credit, butā€“there are other minor tweaks being proposed, but tweaking the ACA and rebranding it PeeCare isnā€™t very honest.

You know congresscritters in even a slightly purple district have got to be, worried, concerned, shi**ing bricks over the number of people in the marches on the 21st.

Panetta was being very diplomatic in all that he said. He knows and we know that trumpet never imagined himself being elected and just loved the spotlight of the press and all media while he took his show on the road.

@rickjones trumpetā€™s relationship with this wife needs to be looked at by psychiatrists, or lacking that, Iā€™ll analyze that. Sheā€™s a trophy, a charm on his bracelet, an addition to every shiny thing heā€™s ever acquired, sheā€™s considered to be lustworthy and the rubes ate it up. Mainly sheā€™s a gold digger who gets little respect and is donnie in a dress.

@spencersmom The military and expanding its role in Iraq was what he was saying when he talked about increased employment during the campaign. Everyone can join the army, or if he thinks about it long enough heā€™ll try to revive the draft.

Well, today Pissident FootInMouth once again announced that the US may try to ā€œget that Iraqi oilā€ that the previous administration left behind. Still not sure if the service men and women were supposed to stuff it in their pockets on the way out when Obama honored Wā€™s SOFA withdraw date, but there you have it.

Turns out, the Iraqis - who, by the way, are our ā€œboots on the groundā€ in the ongoing fight against ISIS - arenā€™t all that pleased with the Pissidentā€™s words and may show their displeasure in ways that might not be, well, the behavior one hopes for in oneā€™s allies.

We are well and truly fucked to have this egotistical idiot in the WHā€¦
