Discussion: One Trump Tax Cut Was Meant to Help the Poor. A Billionaire Ended Up Winning Big
And the census tract only became eligible to be an opportunity zone thanks to a mapping error.

As the selection process was underway, a deputy chief of staff to Maryland’s governor wrote in an email that “Port Covington does not qualify” as an opportunity zone.

Maryland’s governor chose the area for the program anyway — after his aides met with the lobbyists for Plank, who owns about 40% of the zone.
That’s a weird “mapping error.”

Nothing Trump ever did was meant to help the poor. He despises the poor for all that he panders to their (and everybody else’s) worst instincts.

“Plank’s tortured journey began in February, when the CEO of the Baltimore-based sportswear-maker declared himself a fan of Trump. In an interview on CNBC, he praised the president as “pro-business” and a “real asset” for the nation just as debate raged over an executive order to halt the U.S. admission of people from Muslim-majority countries.”

“Was meant to help the poor” is a stretch…

“Meant to help the poor?”

That’s a joke, right?

Thankfully this tax break didn’t leave out the Grifter in Chief’s immediate family, specifically Jared “Full Meddle Jackass” Kushner and his silicone-sculpted wife, Ivankatoinette.

Where would America be without taxpayer-supported windfalls for all these hardworking millionaire and billionaire “job creators”?

Meant to hurt the poor.

Opportunity Zones are NOT meant to help the poor. They are capital-gains-tax-avoidance tools for the very wealthy. They will never help “the poor.”

Edit:
Meb Faber is a finance guy and podcaster has been on oppty zones for a while. The rich people who can see what to do with this policy will happily wring the heck out of it.

Stop demonizing the rich for simple clerical errors, right, Mr Biden?

I hate these people. The pitchforks and the bonfires can’t come fast enough.

Their polo shirts are extremely comfortable, breathable, wick sweat away well and promote evaporation. I also stopped buying anything UA when Plank came out as a Trumper. Other companies (Nike and Columbia for sure) have similar gear, and that’s what I buy now.

The original idea of opportunity zones wasn’t necessarily a bad one. But every implementation I’ve seen has been sweetheart loophole-filled crap.

So one must ask Maryland’s governor got what in return… REPUG or Dem does not matter corruption is corruption.

I’ve always suspected Under Armour was Johnny-Come-Lately wannabe bullshit, despite having been, and continuing to be a potential product user. Never bought any of their stuff, and never will after this. Ditto for Nike given their overseas labour record. Will it matter to them? No, but it matters to me. Fuck 'em.

Red Ball Jets. That’s the way to go.

This is a really well-written article, especially the “Here’s how it works” bit. I would love to see more ProPublica content linked through TPM.
