Discussion: Okla. Lawmaker To Rewrite Bill That Would Have Eliminated AP US History

Discussion for article #233419

Very difficult to eliminate history. Can only be done by the Republicans. Way to go GOP!

THE. GOAL. OF. HISTORY. CLASS. IS. NOT. TO. TEACH. KIDS. TO. BE. PATRIOTIC.

Unless you are a fascist. Or you’re Josef Stalin. Or a conservative I guess.

You do that by teaching principles and values of this country that makes it great and - now, stay with me here, I’ve probably lost any conservatives reading this - actually following those principles and values consistently.

TO: Rep. Dan Fisher ÂŽ
Understand this - What is great about the United States of America is that, along with all of the good, there is the freedom and willingness to objectively examine what has been bad - with the hope for improvement. If you don’t have the stomach for objective assessment - you just don’t grasp the meaning of the study of history … go read fairy tales instead.

Let me TRY to understand; they write a bill, try to pass it, then read it, don’t understand it…?

This whole ‘controversy’ is not about history. It’s about overt nationalism. It’s about teaching kids that waving the flag and screaming “USA, USA, USA” is the most important thing they need to know. Learning about history only gets in the way proper nationalistic propaganda.

“We’re very supportive of the AP program…”

“…as long as it’s being used as a vehicle for conservative indoctrination.”

Welcome to the Tea Party. Legislating isn’t a mystery. Just write bills to fix the “problems” identified by the talk radio voices the way they tell you. After all they have the voice given them by Clear Channel. If you don’t have time to or know how to actually write, just pass what the nice ALEC people tell you to pass. No reason to read what they write. They will never steer you wrong. See legislating isn’t hard, unless some dumbass kid starts a petition drive.

I’m thinking more along these lines:

“Oopsy! We wrote it and you understood it for what it was so now we need to try to rewrite it in a way that hides what we’re trying to accomplish better!!!”

For example: It’s like the difference between writing legislation that outright says “them darkies can’t vote no more” versus legislation that sets up a complicated voter ID and provisional balloting schema that allows local and state operatives to carry out that same mission under cover of due process.

"Fisher lamented that the course emphasized “what is bad about America.”

He’s a Republican and he believes there are bad aspects of our country? He’s gonna get tossed under the bus if he isn’t careful.

We do know one thing for sure, American kids all need to read three speeches written by St. Ronald of Reagan and one written by GWB. Nothing written by any democrat in the last 50 years is worth a damn. God Bless the CS, errr USA.

“There is a local control aspect to this that, as a conservative, I think we should be respecting parent choices, as well as a school district or community that says, ‘We don’t want to be a part of that or we do,’” State Superintendent Joy Hofmeister said.

Translation from the original Derp: “Boys, you preach ‘local control’ and then you want to run the schools from the state house. Now get me a Michelob Ultra out of the fridge!”

I’m willing to bet ALEC wrote the bill. Watch for others exactly like it, I mean word-for-word like it, to pop up in other states.

"It was very poorly written and ambiguous … " and yet, somehow these same idiots have the ability to totally re-write an AP Course content? Can we just put up a wall around
Oklahoma and contain the virus? I know that there are a few sane people left there, and my heart truly goes out to them, but someone keeps electing guys like this idiot, and re-electing them as well.

It continues to amaze me how conservatives boast so loudly how they love America, but have absolutely no understanding that to love something means to love it warts and all.

Maybe we need to flip this back to them in the language they love to use when discussing LBGT rights. “We love America, but we don’t love her sins.”

First, the new revised AP test reflects the true nature of our country’s history. Conservatives does and will complain about anything that puts a spotlight on its dark past. It has no be sugarcoated or not address at all.

Hopefully the AP Board will not knuckle under from the pressure of these troglodytes

wrenching pain

Cannot be unlived

and if faced
with courage

Need not be lived again."
