Discussion: Officer Who Shot 12-Year-Old Tamir Rice Failed Sheriff Department Exam

Discussion for article #231757

buh buh buh…what else do I need?

The shooter (cop) got a 46 when passing baseline was 70 to be a deputy ???

But was hired by the Cleveland PD.

Because of his manly physique wink wink…

Don’t know what the test scale was but by most measurements the 46th percentile might qualify a person to pick up cigarette butts on city streets at the very most.

I might get some doubters but you can bet if he had been a person of color with that low score he would still be without a job, and both cops should not be getting paid by the tax payers of Cleveland and if there is to be justice both should be fired and investigated by the feds and then do some time, federal time!

i want to know why the other cop who was driving would drive up to within five feet of a suspect who was known to be holding a gun. how did he think this was going to work out. dolts around.

Affirmative action is okay if you’re a white male.

Unfair. MrComments has been perfectly clear on the differences between murky cases (Ferguson) and those that are clear examples of rogue cops (Cleveland). And he’s right.

It’s the rest of you who have a knee-jerk reaction to every incident, treating each of them as if they were indentical when they’re obviously not even comparable.

Why Loehmann isn’t under arrest mystifies me. It would appear that he’s nothing more than a uniformed murderer.

The real problem are the idiots who hire the bigger idiots in the first place.

Has a right, yes. Correct? We’ll never know because of that f’d up prosecutor and his poor excuse for due process.

Big mistake on the Lake.

Well one thing you can be sure of regarding this article…It wasn’t written by the AP.

Cuyahoga (ky-uh-HOH’-guh) as the AP puts it, or “Ohio for Dummies” as I like to call it, was avoided this time. Thanks Caitlin Macneil.

And no one, repeat, no one is surprised this cop was and would continue to be a complete failure at his job. The real question is will he get off like all the others for a cold-blooded murder because he wore that pretty blue uniform.

46% out of 100 towards cognitive reasoning…nope, no surprise there.

My reaction is far different from yours. The Cleveland cop was a total unqualified idiot but at least he thought he was doing what we hire police to do … dealing with somebody he believed was armed and dangerous. The thing in Ferguson started with a policeman harassing two young men for walking down the center of the street, moved to a physical altercation when the police officer felt he was disrespected… the claim he was trying to hold two suspects in place is unpersuasive from what I’ve seen… just let the two go to the building they indicated and wait for them to come out… much safer and simpler… and the shooting was excessive and perhaps in the face of the young man turning to surrender.

His father said he did the best he could…

Your clairvoyance is admirable.

So’s yours.

I’m sure this whole sorry investigation episode will end with no accountability for anyone involved. “Mistakes were made”, will be the theme of the day, along with “Sorry 'bout that” and “Move along now, nothing to see here.”

Exactly, EVERY post of mine on this case has faulted the cops big time. And not just because this was a 12 year old kid. Even if this was a man with a real gun, by pulling right up to him the driver put himself and his partner in immediate danger of being shot. So even in the scenario they claim they thought it was (man with real gun), they were completely wrong. You pull up about 30 or 40 feet away, get out and crouch down behind your door, and tell the person to drop the weapon.

I also fault dispatch for not relaying to the police that the caller said it might be a fake gun. And I also fault makers of guns that look real, there is no reason for that. And also why are people taking off the orange stickers identifying them as fake? I would suspect for nefarious reasons, though obviously the kid did not do that, the fake gun with the sticker taken off was given to him.

But ultimately in this case, the cops at the scene are at fault for the actual killing, no doubt.

I would note however that if Cleveland PD had vetted this guy, he would not even have been a cop. I think an investigation is warranted to see if in fact the prior info on this guy was available, and if someone overlooked it because they needed to hire more men. That needs to be looked at.

As to a few people who call me a racist because I felt the Ferguson decision was correct, it really does not faze me. I equate it to them being like Sean Hannity, who when you tell you disagreed with the Iraq War, will then go on his show the next day and say that you said you “loved Saddam Hussein”. Just sophomoric nonsense. I really could care less, and instead prefer to engage people with some intellect. That said, if those people make a comment I agree with, I’ll give them a like. I am more into addressing the content of the comments and making the message boards informational, not slurring people because they disagree with me.

Maybe it worked out just the way these two killers planned. They were acting like illegal road-hunting pheasant hunters who shoot out the window in order to get “the jump” on the birds.

The cops in Cleveland were not doing what they were hired to do. You don’t drive right up to anyone and blow them away. If that gun is real, they put THEMSELVES in immediate danger. They did what a cop is NOT supposed to do. Just like the idiot in NYC who shot the kid in the stairwell. Police protocol is for them NOT to be in the stairwell, but to instead be a presence only on the grounds of the housing projects. They were not doing their duty correctly, and a poor kid got blown away because of it. And then the asshole texts his union rep.

Officer Wilson confronted a robbery suspect. He first told them to get off the street, they said they would soon be at their destination, and he drove off. BOTH Brown’s friend and Wilson agreed on that. So there was no disrespect indicated by either one. Brown’s friend said after they said they would be off the sidewalk soon, Wilson drove off without saying a word.

But, and this is on TAPE, at 11:53 police dispatch reported a strongarm robbery of cigars in progress. At 11:57 dispatch even described the suspects. Brown had the cigars in his hand. His friend confirmed this. Wilson saw that in his mirror, put 2 + 2 together, and backed up to confront them. So if Brown had just put the cigars in his pocket, Wilson just drives off.

Your suggestion that Wilson should let them go into a building and wait for them to come out does not make sense. They could go into a building, then go out the back door. They could hide anywhere. I do not think someone who just committed a strongarm robbery should be allowed to get away, it is the job of the police to confront such a person.

You’d be well-advised to re-read everything I posted on the subject. You’ve got it wrong. Completely wrong.

And this is relevant to the topic how? All you can accomplish with this reply is to take the conversation away from the topic at hand.

Most of us are very much aware of your position regarding Ferguson. But this is a different article that has nothing to do with what happened in Missouri.
