Discussion: Obama's National Security Team Mounts Strong Defense Of Bergdahl Rescue

Discussion for article #223443

Argh. They’re litigating against the professional outrage machine. Mistake. Call them out for being against our military for thinking that even one of our soldiers should be left behind for any reason.

That’ll change the media coverage for a few hours until the outrage machine can come up with something else to complain about.

Rescue or prisoner swap?

Who cares what you call it. The deal is done, focus on reality.

We as a Nation should care for our own no matter what. With that said we certainly must not, considering the allegations in this case against Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, try to score political points like President Obama did by announcing to the world Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl exchange accompanied by the man parents.

The young man was a prisoner of war. He was held for 5 years. Republicans who never served a day in their life in the military are blasting the POTUS for rescuing a POW. How sad that the GOP has fallen down so low. No matter what your politics is everyone should be standing with the POTUS in making this hard decision to get back one of our own soldiers and US citizen. Whatever reason Bergdahl left the security of his outpost there is no reason to leave him behind in Afghanistan.

GOP Pissed ‘Obama broke laws when he negotiated with Ronald Reagan’s good friends, the Taliban’

But, would the GOP praise Obama if he illegally sold US Weapons to the Taliban as they praise Reagan who illegally sold US weapons to Iran … weapons that in turn were used to kill US soldiers. And yes, they still praise Oliver North who is a criminal who works at, and is praised at Fox known as BULLSHIT MOUNTAIN

I’ll bet you thought announcing the killing of bin Laden was also about scoring “political points”.

I propose we raise the age requirement for joining the military. Kids who are 18 and 19 are still pretty ignorant and some realize later they made a mistake in enlisting and then go AWOL. Perhaps this is what happened to Bowe? Why not raise the minimum age for enlisting to 21 years old?

Obama and his national security team on the defensive after “rescuing” a POW. The ineptness is difficult to describe. Once again, Democrats snatching defeat from the jaws of victory!

I agree unless there’s a bigger issue we don’t know about. For example, is the prisoner swap related to a secret agreement with the Taliban to stand down as US troops withdraw? Colin Powell’s former chief of staff (Col. Wilkerson) suggested this was a possibility. If so, the swap is a great idea! Time to leave Afghanistan!

Why not? Perhaps you are not old enough to remember how previous successful POW releases were handled by previous Presidents.

“weapons that in turn were used to kill US soldiers”

US soldiers have not fought against the Iranian armed forces.

The weapons, which were sold to Iran by Israel (you don’t say!) on behalf of the US, were used to fight against Saddam Hussein’s Iraqi army which had invaded Iran (with a wink-wink-nudge-nudge from the US).

Perhaps Obama should have sold guns and other weapons to the Taliban in exchange for hostages and then used the money to fund an illegal war, a war congress spicifically passed a law that could not be funded.

That might be more to the GOPs way of doing things.

The US armed forces have had a difficult time meeting recruiting goals during the Iraq-Afghanistan wars with the 18-year age limit. It would have been impossible with a 21-year age limit.

Military service at age 18 has been standard practice in the US for a long time. It also seems to be the standard age of recruitment in many of the 1st world’s armys. They look for recruits with physical prowess and the willingness to follow orders, not those with enlightenment. One could make the case that Bergdahl was “too enlightened” for his situation.

Remember that time when the US arranged for the homecoming of a POW, and Democrats went on a tirade, tarnishing his service, insulting his family, criticizing our military commanders, and accusing the president of just playing politics?

Those classless Democrats.

I can’t help but to think if Jessica Lynch had been rescued while Obama was president, they’d be slandering her instead of making her into a propaganda victory like they did (to the point where nobody actually remembers the other Soldiers who were POWs also rescued at the same time).

Still hating America this morning are you Darcy?

BTW, only conservatives would attack the President of the United States for bringing an American soldier home from enemy hands.

Conservatives are petulant children, stomping their feet, rolling around on the ground flailing their arms and legs…however, holding their breath and turning blue seems not to be an option…
