Discussion: Obama's Climate Deal With China Enrages GOP In Congress

Discussion for article #230060

Republicans would still be complaining about pollution regulation and “job-killers” if they were knee-deep in polar melt water.

Anyone can make an effort and China obviously should. I grew up in smog in SoCal and now it’s nearly unrecognizable, so reducing it is totally doable.
President Obama undoubtedly cares and is making the necessary effort and leading.
The obstruction is coming from the usual detractors, the Republicans, but that has nothing to do with pollution, that has to do with skin pigment and the letter D.

What a surprise.
In the few minutes of CBS Morning News I could endure this morning, the idiotic Norah O’Donnell, following footage of a baby elephant successfully spurning an attack by a pride of lions, blurted out, “It’s like what’s gonna happen in Washington when the Senate comes back to work this week.” Yeah, Norah, just.

Another opportunity to allow the REP to spread fear and ignorance. The sad thing is . . . . clean technology is a real money maker and job creator. These are high tech fields. Unfortunately, dirty technology (big oil and coal) own the REP party, so FEAR is the order of the day.

Because saving the planet is just so anti-American. Can’t have than now can we.

Apparently China is in on the climate change hoax. No wonder the GOP is enraged. This hoax is even bigger than they originally imagined.

Or maybe the GOP is enraged because China’s action shows that this is not a hoax and is embarrassing the GOP by making the GOP stance look even more foolish.

“But Obama’s opponents in Congress balked, dismissing the new U.S. target as ‘job-destroying red tape’ that would squeeze the middle class.”

Well, technically, it wouldn’t destroy jobs and squeeze the middle class. But, it would give greedy billionaires and corporations another excuse to destroy jobs and squeeze the middle class. Not that they needed one, but it just makes them work a little bit harder to skim off a gigantic bonus for themselves while sticking it to everyone else.

What else is new. Everything Obama does angers the GOP.

“This unrealistic plan that the president would dump on his successor
would ensure higher utility rates and far fewer jobs,” said Sen. Mitch
McConnell, R-Ky., who is set to become the majority leader early next
year.

McConnell has a point: utility rates would be lower, and there would be more jobs, if we could commandeer the middle class to hold back rising sea levels in 10 or so years.

I doubt that things would ever work out this way, but in Missouri v. Holland, foreign treaties, which need only pass the Senate, are binding as U.S. law, to the extent they have a component that affects domestic operations.

So in theory, Obama could pass a comprehensive anti-green house gases bill with China, pass it only in the Senate, by-pass the house and the thing becomes binding law in the U.S.

I would love if this could happen before January 1: it would cause republican’s head to explode.

The US Constitution states plainly that any treaty ratified by the Senate is the Supreme Law of the Land.

But of course Obama is just a Republican in Democrat clothing and there is no difference between electing Democrats and Republicans.

Obama being in a position of power above the GOP Congress enrages them, everything else is just a result of that. The GOP has no interest in the World or even the Country, they’re selfish and centered entirely on their own personal well being.
