Discussion: Obama: When There's Trouble, The US Responds. 'That's How We Roll.'

Discussion for article #228184

Yes, that’s what we do, but a lot more foresight on your part would be very welcome, Mr. President.

Good or bad that seems to be the case. I love this President. A man of integrity. I am so glad he is our President. Unfortunate for him he constantly has to educate the media

Foresight. Explain that please

It’s because the media isn’t used to having a smart President, and most of the people paying attention to the media aren’t that intelligent. Hence, our media has to “dumb” things down for them, and we end up with people like Chuck Todd complaining that the President hasn’t mentioned Syria after mentioning it four times.

You won’t get any argument from me. Even Steve Kroft who is a decent reporter, he is loving trying to get in his gotcha questions.

Without those gotcha questions, the Beltway Big Shots would have nothing at all to say.

That’s for sure. He’s trying to answer questions, but he is constantly being interrupted so Kroft can be sure to get those gotcha questions in, instead of listening to the answers

It would behoove folks to watch the entire interview,

He meant foreskin. Not to worry.

Did you watch the interview or are you just throwing crap out. It was approximately 27 minutes long and the president answered everything put to him in a thoughtful clear manner. I could only wonder what his predecessor would have down in an interview such as this. Besides smirk and giggle.

Yeah, but it’s that blood and treasure thing that I have a problem with.

This constant ‘presser’ outreach by the president is awful, providing his enemies non-stop ammunitions to debase every good thing he’s attempted or done…

He makes a solid argument for “no boots on the ground”, the press will seek out polar opposite from Boehner, McCain, Graham, King and others to neutralize a positions that makes perfect sense.

To buttress this non-sense, the press then conduct their manipulated poll to show maddening swing in public opinion!!

“We are the indispensable nation,” the President said. “We have capacity no one else has. Our military is the best in the history of the world. And when trouble comes up anywhere in the world, they don’t call Beijing. They don’t call Moscow. They call us. That’s the deal.”

I find such language chilling and frightening.

This is essentially a declaration that the U.S. has crowned itself the overseer of the planet exempt from the rule of law because its military has the most murderous capacity.

Not a single follow-up question (in the first half of the interview) from Kroft about how being the “indispensable nation” may conflict with Obama’s primary job to protect and defend the Constitution and our sacred Treaty obligations.

America is being “rolled” into an extremely dangerous and murky future which will almost certainly provoke a global outbreak of war.

I for one was very proud to hear him to use the phrase “the indispensable nation” because it means more than just this country’s role in war. It means that we gave aid to Europe after it was defeated, we gave aid to hurricane and tornado victims in other countries and it remains a beacon for immigrants, “the tired, the poor” on the Statue of Liberty, what my grandparents saw first when they came to here from impoverished European countries.

It’s the Crusades, Part II. Bombing seven Muslim nations is really going to work wonders for the image of the USA.

Hysterical! My boss just looked at me like I lost my mind.

…the phrase “the indispensable nation” because it means more than just this country’s role in war.

So you’re okay with the phrase “indispensable nation” being used by the president to normalize in the collective mind of the public the claimed role of the U.S. as a global hegemon seated above the rule of law because the phrase can also be interpreted as something else?

In a word, yes. This country is still more than a war mongering machine.

“Indispensable” for whom?

Take it away, Smedly!

I spent 33 years and four months in active military service and during that period I spent most of my time as a high class muscle man for Big Business, for Wall Street and the bankers. In short, I was a racketeer, a gangster for capitalism [corporatism]. I helped make Mexico and especially Tampico safe for American oil interests in 1914. I helped make Haiti and Cuba a decent place for the National City Bank boys to collect revenues in. I helped in the raping of half a dozen Central American republics for the benefit of Wall Street. I helped purify Nicaragua for the International Banking House of Brown Brothers in 1902-1912. I brought light to the Dominican Republic for the American sugar interests in 1916. I helped make Honduras right for the American fruit companies in 1903. In China in 1927 I helped see to it that Standard Oil went on its way unmolested. Looking back on it, I might have given Al Capone a few hints. The best he could do was to operate his racket in three districts. I operated on three continents.
