Thanks, just because it’s simple, it doesn’t necessarily mean that I’ll always get it without help. Thanks again.
I remember a time when the radical left was proudly forthright about its extreme-minority status. Remember “vanguards?”
Now, they want to have it both ways. They want to stake out to be total rebels against the system, man, while also insisting that they’re popular and mainstream.
What do “radical leftists” believe in, anyway?
I hear the term get tossed around frequently by middle-of-the-road types, but rarely defined.
It’s the far left of the left wing and pretending that you don’t get it is radically stupid.
What’s, ‘middle-of-the-road-type’ mean if you don’t get left of left?
If anyone goes to the Great Orange Satan, they’ll see plenty of comments about “sell out” this and “disapointment” that. In other words, BAU.
Look, I have no doubt that this was a very calculated decision on POTUS’ part. His WH doesn’t do anything without thinking most of the ramifications through. I agree with TDOhio and others that the timing on this is very important and that AFTER the elections may really be the most opportune time to get reform done. Personally, my hair’s not on fire and I’m still gonna be voting.
Oh, - and any on the Left who decide not to vote because of this decision are ONLY shooting themselves.
In other words, today is a day.
“Being a leader requires making difficult and courageous decisions,” said the letter, whose signers included the National Council of La Raza and the League of United Latin American Citizens. “It is your time to lead, Mr. President.”
That’s certainly vague.
FIFY:
NOT ONLY
“We cannot be a pro-immigrant party only when it is convenient. The Democrats cannot say that we stand with immigrants if that secretly means we only stand with immigrants in odd-numbered years or when southern Democrats complain.” - Rep. Luis Gutierrez in the Guardian.
Being concerned about political fallout among Democrats’ base should not be marginalized by describing it as only being a concern of “radicals”.
As opposed to “middle-of-the-road types,” which a scientific term with a precise meaning.
Oh, yes, the site where a diary titled “DADT Reform is Dead” made the Rec list in December 2010.
It’s the icon furthest to the right, just to the left of the “Reply” button at the bottom of the comment.
edit: Didn’t see the earlier reply. Man, do I need new glasses…
This just in! President Obama again caves to Tea-GOP threats. Republicans take control of Senate. Dems puzzled about what caused enthusiasm gap.
The President does this in the hope that it will aid blue-dog Democrats in the South, not caring that it will hurt progressive Democrats who look to the Hispanic community for support in the southwest, Illinois, and elsewhere.
Agree. You saved me some keyboarding.
From a cold hearted political perspective, this is a good move. The Senators and some House seats we need to win are in states where the bigots don’t want immigration reform. I agree, wait until after the midterms then make the changes.
And what if we lose Sen. Udall in Colorado, and Gov. Quinn in Illinois, and the governor’s race in Florida, and three or four House seats in Texas and Arizona because Hispanic voters are frustrated and angry with the Democratic Party? It’s about time the Democrats stood up proudly to support groups that support them, rather than endlessly triangulating.
The dirty, little secret here is that Republicans have no plan.
As long as they can field 11 players they might stand a chance but if the rest of them are in jail or suspended it will be difficult! Can’t play the SB in the prison yard - no room for the corporate tent parties!
The same Michael Moore you lionize hates unions and ignored them when Snyder was squashing them in his homestate of Michigan. He’s even admitted he’s a 1%er.
