Discussion: Obama To Delay Executive Action On Immigration

Discussion for article #227333

OK bring on the criticism from the radical left that the elections are less important than the perfect move and timing on immigration.

Obama is playing smart politics. As such, he will be attacked from the left and the right, from the north and the south, from the east and the west. This is what the media loves to do.

After the elections he can act via executive authority (albeit a more limited set of actions) or if Dems make gains in the House and Senate (not likely, but possible), a broader plan for immigration reform may get through Congress.

That tricky tyrant, dictator, terrorist, communist, socialist,
food stamp President. Now he’s making the Republicans NOT IMPEACH him like he wanted to do. Very sneaky.

No surprise here. President Obama will do nothing where it concerns immigration.

Both parties are playing political football with the immigration issue. I knew he was going to reverse his decision regarding executive action. Mark my words, Pres. Obama will leave office without fixing the immigration issue.

The whole executive action talk on immigration was a means to deflect from the Hobby Lobby ruling a few months ago. IF, Pres. Obama wanted to take action, he would have done so a year ago because he KNEW Republicans were not going to touch immigration reform.

WTF does that mean “radical left”? Is it the “radical” Michael Moore pro labor prosecute Wall Street types or the DLC Clinton Obama give me a hug Wall Street types?

Changing the timing by a couple months to account for political considerations is ok, but the action he takes is going to need to be huge, and lasting.

If he implements a major immigration overhaul in late November, no one is going to care about the timing. They’re going to care about the policy.

One good way to identify who the radicals are: if someone wins lots of elections, they’re probably not a radical.

Of course, President Obama has already taken huge, historic action on immigration, such as the Dream Act by executive order.

Perhaps you’ve heard of it.

It is true that the way to get high approval ratings is to do nothing controversial. Maybe this really is what the administration sees as a way to help the party in November.

So business as usual, then.

Agreed. He’s got to throw deep, even if the GOTP takes the Senate and holds the House.

Sometimes, doing nothing helps millions of people, just magically I guess.

I think you overestimate the public’s ability to sustain political will. Late November is the perfect time to take action if you’re worried about backlash in two years. Besides, there are two(!) Super Bowls between then and November '16!
In fact, why are we even discussing politics when we’re only 4-5 months away from the next SUPER BOWL!?!
49’ers, yay or nay this year?

I say again, President Obama is the BF of Mexican immigrants that can actually help them today. If they and everyone else directed their anger, anxiety and frustration where it truly belongs, relentlessly, then the Republicans might just do something positive and Obama would be Captain of that ship.

The fact that Obama is their sole hope should tell them that he isn’t the problem and it isn’t exactly hard to figure out who is.

Politics are getting in the way but there is no other way.
