Well, I love me a good existential crisis. I would have preferred, of course, a more apparently positive future for my children going forward, but letās just look at it as a teachable moment, shall we? Iām going to advise them to āfight the powerā going forward, because really, what else can we -or they - do?

I couldnāt sleep. Enjoying all the girls crying over at the opening TPM thread. And yea, Bernieās fault from a few of them. Three days ago they were doing the Rockettesā Kick at a wedding reception. I jabbed a few of them - then disappeared.
As you know, itās not the end of the world but it will be interesting once President Trump (Yikes!) experiences the Lilliputians greeting his demands with yawns. Hopefully thereās also a handful of Dems not afraid to get their noses bloodied. Neoliberalism has finally died. That to me was the real threat.

Iām heartbroken for our country, so I really canāt listen to Donald Trump right now, especially after watching his graceless mouthpiece Lewandowski on CNN bullying Van Jones about Clintonās decision to wait till morning to speak. The next 24 hours will certainly be interestingā¦if not world shatteringā¦
What to say? What to DO? Did we really just do this to ourselves? What does this mean, beside the fact that the rest of the world is appalled at what has just happened and the financial markets are collapsing? If this really IS our āBrexitā, will we be begging for a do over? Did we just slip sideways into a wormhole or fall down the rabbit hole? My wife, who dos not drink, is asleep upstairs, drunk. Iām not exactly tea totaling either. What now?
Well, hereās what Iām going to do. Everything I can to make sure my country doesnāt succumb to graceless violence and fall apart in an orgy of hate. Iām going to do what I can to make sure that my daughter, who is gay, retains the right to love who she wants, my niece who is transgender gets to live the life she wants and not what some religious zealot decides for her. Iām going to do what I can to make sure that all of our children, who are in various stages of their education, are equipped and informed about this word they are inheriting and donāt back away -EVER- from this horror show about to unfold, but leans in and pushes back HARD against the darkness that seems to be enveloping us all. Iām gong to do my damnedest to not let down and never lose hope that our country CAN eventually come to terms with our diversity and learn to harness itās awesome power. Iām going to continue, more than ever, to rage against the night!

Long time TPMer here, but never comment. Just feeling depressed like all the other good folks here.
Oh I dunno President Obama, methinks it`s gonna be cloudy and pissy for quite some time. I love Pres Obama (and Bernie and Hillary and Michelle) but even he repeatedly falls into the American Greatness trap. American exceptionalism is a farce. I am truly tired of hearing about āthe greatest country in the worldā. In some respect dt was right about chosing american greatness as his meme to appeal to the small minded. The fallacy is that we do not have to be great, we only need to get better. Incremental progress is the only way and this morning we can all sense how much of a setback we have incurred.
Our election system clearly sucks. Access to health care sucks. Our two party system sucks, wealth inequality sucks, engrained racism and sexism suck, etc. Why do we seem to have a fixation and insistence on being great as if that ethereal goal is more important that incremental progress based on reasoned analysis and the common good (world and national) ? Just like we need to let go of the PCmedia repugnant instilled idea that all issus have two equally valid sides we need to stop thinking of the USA as exceptional in spite of all the evidence against it. But the faction of the american populous that just chose President Elect Donald Trump, (i puked in my mouth when I typed that, the cognitive dissonance on this one strongth, we cannot have a president like dt, but we do, but we can`t, but we do) is not sufficiently educated to view complex issues with reason, evidence and critical enlightened thinking. This is one reason they like dt.
OK ā¦ I vented. Im off to do some birdwatching here in Germany. Im relieved to be an expat today. Love the imaginary potential of the USA more than the real thing.
Seek your own peace however you can. Even though I dont comment here I feel that I know you folks well, and deeply feel the wound we have all suffered. Nothing wrong with feeling the letdown and despair. But do not let the dark side consume you, remind yourself that not everything is politics and government. Guess thats what BO means. Accept that this is gonna be hard.
