Discussion: Obama Takes 'Some Responsibility' For Significant Democratic Losses

I agree OFA was badly misused. I went to a post-election meeting, and they were reinventing the wheel where there was already strong local party. Instead of focusing on building a local grassroots, they worked specifically on the president’s agenda, and activated their grassroots during the campaign to focus just on the presidential race instead of the ticket. After the 2012 election, OFA decided to be a non-partisan organization instead of part of the party. I see OFA as a huge missed opportunity. It was part of thinking just in national terms and dropping the build up of local parties, which has really hurt us.

Yeah, the guy who lost by four million votes in the primary and the person who didn’t even run. LOL

No, we lost all those things.

We allowed turnout to plunge from 130 million in 2008 to 89 million in 2010, which cost us the House and enabled the new Republican majorities to gerrymander their states and ensure continued Republican majorities in the House and state legislatures.

We allowed an insurgent Republican majority in Congress to violate all norms and traditions and hold government hostage, using shutdowns and the refusal to raise the debt ceiling, to impose crippling austerity and a radical right agenda – which you promptly blamed on President Obama and the “centrist Democrats.”

We refused to support the new president and the slim Democratic majority out of petulant disappointment that the largest financial collapse of our lifetimes, and the first global economic collapse in history, was not reversed within a single election cycle.

And here we are.

We allowed dubious media coverage of Hillary Clinton driven by Russian-authorized leaks to drive voter resentment and apathy.

Instead of a hard-working, tough, brilliant, compassionate woman with progressive values, allies in Congress and the grit to get things done domestically and the smarts to protect our interests abroad – albeit one not as charismatic or telegenic – we are now under the thumb of a unprincipled sneering narcissist and sociopath who is assembling a Murderers’ Row of a Cabinet:

A climate denier who has sued the EPA a dozen times stands ready to be confirmed as EPA chief;

A far-right ideologue who has waged an unrelenting battle to dismantle the public school system is poised to become Education Secretary;

An unreconstructed Confederate who was deemed too racist for a federal bench by his Republican colleagues in Congress is the nominee for Attorney General;

A peddler of conspiracy theories who was fired to revealing classified information without authorization and has gone on to become a paid commentator for a Russian propaganda station is set to become National Security Advisor;

An oil company chief who opposed sanctions against Russia and who has received the highest honor that nation bestows in a foreign citizen is ready to take over as Secretary of State;

Wall Street’s “Foreclosure King” is set to become Treasury Secretary.

And still you rail against President Obama, the Clintons and other Democrats for this fiasco, preen about your moral purity, and gloat that this debacle only validates your chioce of Bernie Sanders.

Enjoy the next four years. You’ve earned it.

@pluckyinky

Bullshit. It is Obama and the Clinton legacy. They were in charge. They failed to fight. They own it. And if you’re still singing their praises, so do you.

They have destroyed the Democratic Party and set the progressive causes back decades.

Their political consultants have taken millions and millions of dollars and have delivered nothing but loses. And then they and you try to blame the voters.

Just bullshit.
