Discussion: Obama Takes 'Some Responsibility' For Significant Democratic Losses

Really?

I’m not weighing in here to say that the hardcore Obama hate in these comments is all valid, but come on, it’s the policies that matter, and we know that GOP policies are in reality far-right policies, as there aren’t many truly moderate repubs. So you’re saying you prefer the far-right to the far-left?

You’re so blind. W was because Bill Clinton couldn’t keep his dick in his pants, and Jeb Bush fixed the election in Florida. Trump is because Obama didn’t know how to fight.

What country do you live in that you think income inequality is not important? Didn’t income inequality in the form of rust belt anger just bite Hillary in the ass?

The Tea Party knew how to fight and win. What do the “blame the voters” and “blame the left” Democrats like you know how to do? Lose, that’s what.

Yes, at least they don’t pretend to be your allies while they’re shiving you in the kidneys. At least it’s obvious they’re your enemy. I can on some level respect that kind of opponent. What I find far more despicable are the people who claim to be on your side yet do nothing but trash every single effort toward progress. They are the real enemy.

Wow, you’re describing Obama perfectly. Good for you!

Oh yeah, when was the last time you had a far left president. I’ll wait.

No, racism did. If you still think the fight is over income inequality, you’re not paying attention. The fight now is about basic human rights, basic civil rights. The fight is to try to maintain some semblance of a democracy. Jeff Sessions, an overt racist and misogynist, is going to be the guy responsible for fighting for my rights as a black woman. I don’t give a fuck about income inequality. I’m concerned about liquidating my dad’s assets and keeping passports up to date in case we have to flee. I’m sure Jews in the early 30’s weren’t exactly worrying about these issues either.

“I know you are, but what am I”! Brilliant retort, did you learn that from Trump or a five year old?

Okay. Thank you for clarifying. I don’t see the left as even close to that. I assume you’re talking about Bernie supporters and the idea that some didn’t support Hillary? Or maybe I’m completely in the dark about what you’re refering to when you speak of betralyals by the far left?

Regardless, wouldn’t you still prefer the policies of the far left, even if you get shivved (I mean, we’re talking metaphorical shivving here, no?) while getting them? Or are you just talking about respecting them as people, and not their policies? It’s just I read your original statement as “screw the far left, I’d prefer the GOP to them.”

It’s not about policies. It’s solely about who they are as human beings. I hate the GOP, absolutely, but at least they don’t pretend to be your allies while working from the inside to tear down everything you try to build. They fight progress while looking you in the eye. The far left fights progress by making perfect the enemy of the good, by standing on non-existent principles that only ever result in losing, by engaging in the same sort of hate as Republicans and calling it liberalism.

Okay, I understand your view on this matter now. I completely disagree that the far left is that way, but I don’t think we’ll change each other’s minds here. Thanks again for clarifying.

very good points. And something that I think could be supported by dozens of examples. The Democrats, first with B. Clinton, used progressive and honestly liberal votes to get elected and then went ‘moderate’ in office. Actually failing to fulfill the majority of the promises made in campaigns. The effect, as you point out, was a sort of slippage that eventually lost them the support of the most enthusiastic followers. The Republicans have been taking advantage of this by seeming to be the stronger. The Democratic loss is not due to Russian Hackers, FBI revelations, or even misogynists and racists, but is the failure of the Democrats, and specifically Obama to show leadership.

That’s not what I hear from the voters who turned the election in rust belt states. What I hear is that they voted for Obama and he failed to deliver. Hillary ran as a third term of Obama’s inaction, so they took a chance on Trump:

If you just label them racist so you can ignore them, you will not solve the problem of getting Democrats elected and we will see Trump re-elected. Anybody who really cares about racism and sexism should be deeply offended at how those terms were weaponized in this election. Don’t agree with me, why then you’re a racist, sexist deplorable. After you say or imply that to a voter, do you think they’re going to listen to anything else you say?

Funny how people don’t admit to being racist. The real problem in those three states that turned the election is called Bernie Sanders. He convinced a bunch of people that Democrats would give them unicorns that shit gold coins if Democrats would just stand up to the establishment or something. He convinced a bunch of very stupid people that the election was rigged and they believed him. He convinced young people that only through him was there any way out. And those people believed him.

You’re probably white and probably male, so you can afford to hold that pie in the sky ideology where it’s incumbent on black people and women to try to convince racists and misogynists not to hate them. We’ve been doing that for the better part of five centuries and it hasn’t worked. So, forgive me, or don’t, if I think you’re incredibly naive.

Yeah - here is the full extent of his responsibility for the losses - he shouldn’t have been black.

That’s it.

Anyone who still cannot see that racism is what is poisoning this country and our discourse our politics and our attitudes is willfully blind to the truth. It has determined almost everything that has happened.

Funny how some people see racism in everything, except themselves. For you, hatred of white people and men substitute for thinking. No wonder you hate Sanders, too – he’s white and male and that’s all that matters to you and your ilk, like tena.

Precisely why I despise the far left. They engage in the very same sort of victim shaming and blaming, expecting Obama to be Bagger Vance while completely ignoring all that was stacked against him. They are as oblivious to race issues as any Republican and are as equally complicit. They, exactly like their Republican fellow travelers, give him no credit for anything, and revel in manufacturing reasons to trash him. Ever notice how they completely absolve Russia, Comey, the media, and blame solely for the shitshow of the 2016 election on Clinton, Obama, DWS, and Donna Brazile, two white women, a black guy, and a black woman? These people are not on my side. They are my enemy. As my mom used to say, “Not everyone who smiles in your face is your friend.” Or, Maya Angelou’s, “when someone shows you who they are believe them”.

I suppose Hillary and Debbie Waserman Schultz are responsible for the actions of Vladimir Putin and Julian Assange and Wikileaks, too.

I suppose that Hillary and DWS were responsible for Crosshatching black voters and destroying their ballots before they were recorded.

Fuck Bernie Sanders. He just made it possible for Putin and Trump to spread their filth about Hillary.

Yes, I’m the real racist. This is awesome. It perfectly encapsulates what I said about the far left being just as ignorant and complicit in matters of race as Republicans. If you substitute Donald Trump for Sanders and change Tena to Obama, I’m almost positive that’s an exact quote from one of Pepe’s minions.
