Bel Edwards’ spokesman, Richard Carbo, told the AP that Trump was welcome in Louisiana, “but not for a photo-op."
A photo op is what Trump gave them. Or gave himself, actually.

As someone who lived through Superstorm Sandy in the NYC area I can attest to the efficacy of FEMA. They were on the ground here as the storm was happening. A far cry from the gutted Bush era FEMA run by the Arabian horse fellow. The president came days later hence the famous hug with Christie. He even showed up in Staten Island, a rare place for any president to visit.

Louisiana needs FEMA, not POTUS for a dramatic photo op. No Drama Obama would be criticized if he went or if he didn’t. He’s certainly getting briefings on his WORKING vacation. They would criticize if he was on vacation or not.
They are calling it a thousand year flood. Still not convinced about global warming? I’m sure the response is “this isn’t evidence”, all the while making Obama’s decision to wait conclusive evidence he doesn’t care. Except for Trump, I don’t see GOP leaders rushing to Louisiana, or even rushing to give money for relief.

He also visited storm damaged areas in Alabama (2011), Oklahoma (2013) Arkansas (2014) and Louisiana (2012) - and I am certain other places the past 8 years. Clearly it’s not the President that is “tone-deaf”; I think it’s the very very concerned folks that claim they don’t normally agree with Republicans and neocons but [insert outrage of the day]
I am so glad Gov Edwards explained what Pres. Obama has done and why it would not be prudent for him to visit at this time. Kinda took the wind out of the right wing’s current fauxrage

That was all over last night. Golfing during flood. It’s a screaming point for sure now. Trump saved them all.

This is President Obama we’re talking about, so no matter what he does, or doesn’t do, it’s automatically wrong. If he was there, wading in the water, sleeves rolled up, helping folks he’d be criticized. He’s done exactly what needs to be done…at like the nation’s chief executive and make certain the help that’s needed is being provided. Bush didn’t go to NOLA, but he claimed “You’re doin’ a great jobm Brownie”…when, in fact, Brownie wasn’t doing squat and had no clue.
I completely ignore these idiots, and we all know Drumpf isn’t going to accomplish squat by going…other than being in the way of making things better.
Hardly the end of the story. Obama has been in office for nearly 8 years, he knows the GOP is waiting, and he still plays into their hands.
I think we need someone a little bit more proactive when it comes to the politics.

I’m completely fine with how PBO has handled every domestic disaster including this one. Let them bitch, it’s a feature. They can have as much rope as they need.

BO did everything that needed doing, FEMA is running like a well-oiled machine, the people who need to be at “ground zero” are there…and still it’s a problem. It’s a problem because optics matter. The president needed to cut his vacation short and get out in front.
It’s unlikely to resonate like Katrina did for Bush the Lesser because he put idiots in charge and botched everything. Even so the prez is going to take a hit for it, fair or not.
Since Obama didn’t go, he should have. If he had gone, he shouldn’t have, since the governor asked him not to. See how that works, for a lying “conservative” asshole on FOX? Whatever a grownup like Obama does, you have the tools and the noise machine to bitch about it. And these dummies like the above are trained not to notice that.
