Discussion: Obama Says US Will 'Take Action' In Response To Russian Cyber Attacks

He doesn’t want to say that the hacking was responsible for HRCs loss because he knows Comey may have been just as much a factor.

Meanwhile, the propagandizing rages at full speed.

Most intelligent people understand that neither China nor Russia are our friends, while Europe generally is. But in the last week or so, there has been a deluge of (probably Russia-originated) shitposters around the Web wailing about “OH dearie me oh my, WHY does the DEMOCRAT PARTY hate our NATURAL ALLIES Russia so much?? They’re our NATURAL ALLIES in the WAR ON TERRUR, and together we will STOP those EVIL CHINESE and DESTROY ISIS”.

Give. Me. A Fucking. Break.

Good ol’ “no drama Obama”

HA. I’d rather have Iran as an ally.

Russia’s chicanery would seem to indicate that they’re willing to pitch Iran over the side in exchange for a Fascist-ruled America.

They kind of are, we both simply agree not to say so out loud.

We’ll see how that goes from here.

I’ve been trying to think of things that would be proportional and meaningful but my anger and imagination gets the better of me so I’m eager to see what Obama has in store.

The US let the USSR crumble under its own weight. (With nudges here and there)

Russia supported trump in hopes of the same.

That is why he is considered the adult in the room.

I will miss this

I don’t see that. We back Saudi Arabia 100%, which is pretty much the capitol of Sunni Islam, against Iran which is the capitol of Shia Islam. Those are the two major contending powers in the region, each struggling through surrogates to get the upper hand on the other.

As an adjunct, our “ally” Israel is fairly indifferent to Saudi Arabia, while very hostile to Iran.

Thus is part of the reason we are quiet about it.

It behooves us to have some level of cooperation with both.

The diplomatic equivalent if walking a chewing gum at the same time (ok, maybe juggling flaming torches and chewing gum at the same time)

IMHO it looks to me like the ‘take action’ is probably going to be very personal against Putin. I get the feeling that the latest round of leaks that have highlighted Putin’s personal involvement were part of the plan. They are building the case against Putin in the public eye to make clear why they are targeting the retaliation at Putin personally. You have to consider too that such leaks may be a way to try and get past Trump’s reluctance to hear intelligence briefings that don’t fit in with his world view. The story goes that Trump gets his news summarized by his staff and they photocopy articles and highlight every time that the story mentions Trump by name. This may be a way to get this news past his gatekeepers.

Couple these recent leaks with the story they put out that Putin has turned himself into possibly the richest man in the world with assets north of 85 Billion,

This makes me think that perhaps the retaliation will take the form of an electronic bank heist were they go after Putin’s accounts and somehow or another drain those accounts with the promise of returning the money to the Russian coffers when Putin is gone from the scene.

Such an act would be VERY personal and would have the added benefit of putting Putin in a box where he cannot complain too loudly to the Russian people in an attempt to escalate the situation for fear of exposing his own massive corruption.

Dana Rohrbacher or however he spells it was telling us that Russia is our natural ally against ISIS terror because they’re bombing not ISIS terror US allies in the war against Syria to save Assad whose the victim of terror and making him kill babies and aNd women to death with Russia bombs. ObaMa did Aleppo.

I should have gone into geopolitical intelligence and analysis, honestly. I find all of this kind of shit (pondering what the other guy is thinking, and why) fascinating.

It’s what it is.

This is me (so results/answers might vary), but geopolitics is essentially one part book learning n one part instinctual.

Especially in regards to this cycle.

Which recipe did Condi Rice (who doesn’t know Russian fluently, IIRC) use?

But Obama’s the only adult in the room so all will be okay… because Obama’s the only adult in the room. When do we get to the ‘instinctual’ part? Do we ever get to the ‘instinctual’ part?
