Discussion: Obama Orders Troops To Iraq To Protect American Embassy

Discussion for article #223995

GOALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLllllllllllllllllllllllll!!! Let them have that monstrosity of an Embassy and write it off as, ‘profit and loss’.

Once more ignoring the DFH. “Those who do not remember history are doomed to repeat it.” A few ‘advisers’ is how Vietnam started. Get the people in the embassy out and then get everyone else out. The religious war over Islam has been going on for nearly 1400 years; it’s not our fight.

Eff Bush/Cheney for starting the clusterfuck in the first place.

I would also not be surprised to see some shenanigans going on here, especially with the latter still around.

Maybe that’s what they are already planning to do…???

I am just heartsick over this latest development. I hope and pray for every American that is being sent there, and I cannot fathom how Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice et al can sleep at night knowing that their mendacity has led to the miasma that is the current Iraq. This is just a horrific turn of events, and I shudder to think of what will happen next.

They sleep just fine - sociopaths have no conscience.

This in no way is analogous to the escalation of the Vietnam War via sending “advisors” This is combat support in case they are needed for Embassy security an evac. We are not heading down a path of re-entering Iraq for the purposes of trying to stabilize or occupy it.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Looks like this could get ugly quick.

FU George W. Bush. It’s no wonder you spend your time painting your toes.

It won’t.

Baggerpublicans want to impeach the President because there wasn’t enough security in Benghazi.

The same Baggerpublicans will probably want to impeach the President for sending troops to the embassy without Congressional authorization.

Wonder if chicken hawk graham will volunteer to deploy to the
embassy? It will finally be his chance to walk the walk.

They’re probably worried about Benghazi part deux. Taking zero chances.

Send in troops, send in the evac helicopters, shred all documents, destroy all computer hard drives, get EVERYONE out.

The last troop there gets to turn off the lights and generators before he gets on the last evac helo.

Game Over.

The Special Forces are not approved yet, but are under active discussion. The intent being, “for the purposes of trying to stabilize.”

They’re probably worried about Benghazi part deux.

No question, sure. Bigger story is the as-yet unapproved Special Forces.

Way to misread and mischaracterize the part about Special Forces.

So are you saying that unless I repeat vague official statements at face value, I am mis-reading and mischaracterrizing? Even if so, is there an official statement that the yet-unapproved mission’s would-be purpose is not to stabilize? Or do we just have to trust Lestatdelc on that?

With Embassy security being the task of the already-authorized 275, can you say what the non-stabiliization purpose of the other group, Special Forces, would be? Not anodyne activities like “training,” but purpose?

They also wouldn’t want a repeat of Operation Frequent Wind, images of which are still etched in the minds of anyone who lived through Vietnam.
