Discussion: Obama: 'Open And Receptive' To 'Responsible Changes' To O-Care

I suspect they will sneak ACA hobbling clauses into bills that look palatable after superficial MSM inspection.

I’m sure he won’t. But he might let them make it more expensive for us.

They may not “want this fight,” but they’ve painted themselves into a corner on the issue, such that their rabid base will demand it

It will be, without a doubt, the single funniest thing to occur in 2015 if, at some point, we are able to say that McConnell has found himself in pretty much the exact same situation as Boehner did, and that he is failing just as spectacularly as a result.

If the Republicans want to stop his executive orders, they may have to legislate. The possibilities are endless.

Remember, Mitch promised the voters of Kentucky that they could keep their website. We all know he’s a man of his word.

With 15 million people signed up for the ACA, it is going to be tough for congress to repeal the ACA root and branch.

In a vacuum I agree. But leaving the country a smoking crater to prove a point to the idiots who vote GOP or sit-out mire-terms is not a viable option in my view.

Jesus, you’re making it sound too damn plausible. And McConnell has the nuke 'em card in his shirt pocket if he can’t get to 60. You know, ‘really, I had no choice’.

We’re stuck with “Obamacare”, the good and the bad, for another two years because the Republicans have no interest in improving it. Therir preference is for there to be nothing and leave Americans at the mercy of the insurance industry and big pharma. Not even because they are allied with them, but because they have completely bought into the notion that the government shouldn’t have any role in improving the lives of it’s citizens. They are nihilists.

Fine. He’s not running for President anymore. Let them call him “obstructionist.” Big whoop. That only matters if you’re running again.

“Get Out The Vote” didn’t work so well this time. So we “Get Out The Veto” instead.

Obama is of course right. No Republican has ever suggested a single thing to make the law work better in any way ever. Any change that they would like would make it work worse. There are many ways to improve it - some kind of national negotiation or price control on drugs like pretty much every other country does could bring prescription prices in line with everywhere else - generally 50-75% less. It would be a huge, obvious, and tested improvement. How about that, Republicans?

Just not any of what makes it work.

There is an email, a resignation letter, going around Mexico where a prominent columnist has resigned from one of the major newspapers (El Milenio) because the editor told him to stop criticizing one of the two TV corporations. The columnist is upset because the corporation, Televisa, belongs to the PRI and during the last election, against Mexican law, openly advocated for Peña Nieto. In addition, it has been pushing to whitewash EPN’s reputation that is taking a beating with the recent massacre of students.

So the same dynamic that is working in the US is also working in other countries where the mass media is owned by the corporate politicians and is fully engaged in pushing their agenda. Any thought of being a watchdog of the government has long since disappeared in the US and is rapidly disappearing in other parts of the world (Mexico, Australia,
)

That means that places like TPM, Daily Kos, Truthout, Reader Supported News, Alternet, Crooks and Liars, and others need to step up to the plate and fill in the empty spots that people like Edward R. Murrow and Izzy Stone used to fill.

The problem for the repubs is that now they will have to govern, and they haven’t done that since Eisenhower. They’ve forgotten how, especially the wing nuts who have been getting in over the last six years have absolutely no experience in government at all and don’t have a clue as to how it’s done.

That means that there will be hell to pay in two years, but the MSM will blame the Democrats for all the problems, and voters will believe them. Even if Democrats then get back into office, the damage will be too great to cure in only a couple years. Look at how long it’s taken to clean up after Bush and there are still a couple floors of the house that need complete refurbishing.

Well said, chammy. +1000

Many liberals are fairly economically secure. If these suicidal idjits want to reward the party that screws them every time and increases income inequality. They can knock themselves out.

Latinos and young students with college debt, single women didn’t come out. Yeah, smart.

All Dem policies were approved by the electorate but they voted the candidates that would achieve those? They were fear-mongered on Ebola and ISIS but voted for the party that cut medical funding for Ebola and wouldn’t vote to fight ISIS?
Dems should’ve ran on GOTP cuts to Ebola and Obama should’ve forced GOTP to vote against anti ISIS funding which they would’ve, if Obama proposed it. Then we could’ve used in the elections. We can fear-monger too

The reason why they haven’t proposed any changes to ACA, other than repeal it or gut it to unworkable is because they don’t believe in any kind of health access reform, period. They only speak the words of coming up with a plan because they know that to be on the opposite side of wanting to do something is unacceptable. The public wants something done. Republicans just have to figure out how to do nothing while appearing to plan to do something. In the meantime, they float suggestions that accomplish nothing, cost them nothing and don’t bother major supporters.

Don’t forget. After doing all the work trying to repair the damage left by Republicans, Democrats will be blamed for the poor condition, and for not doing a good as new rehab in that time. Then the Repubs get elected and we start the whole cycle over again.

Almost a lose-lose proposition for our side. We have to figure out a way to be ahead of the news and out GOTP on every gaffe they make. Everything they do, we need to begin yelling out to the media in lockstep. The 1% media may be GOTP but they also love money aka news, so they’ll propagate our loud mouthiness ravings, so long as we’re making news. Use the GOTP leaning MSM to beat GOTP at their own game.
Obama team played the media to their advantage to beat RMoney in 2012. They know how to use 1% media in spite of the media being pro-1%, so Dems need to follow that playbook.
Elections have to be a daily anti GOTP accountability session not just during elections. We need a break, but after the week, Dems need to start fighting everyday to beat GOTP FAUX/FEAR noise machine. They’re to blame for cuts to medical research, ISIS but blame us when issues go wrong because of their cuts? Trap 'em. Hold them accountable on each and every vote from now on!!

Govern? LOL.

Please, Limbaugh and RW media’s been screaming from the rooftops, the mandate GOTP got from their dying base of old white voters (20% electorate) is to stop/CRUSH Obama, the black dude.

Good luck with ever seeing a Rethug try to govern. Good luck with that
