Discussion for article #231290
It’s too bad, Kennedy’s policy was REALLY close to working. Thanks a lot Obama.
But…we never gave the embargo a chance!
We’ve only had it for 52 years, that’s not enough time to make it work!
This is how grownups govern.
I am almost positive that if the US had continued to follow this policy for another 52 years, the Castros would be gone.
That’s something the GOP would say.
I love this Man. He has made me angry a few times, but never disappointed. I will never miss any President like I miss him.
Fuck you republicans - you scum bag slime for the way you’ve treated him. You will live to regret every minute
FOX “outrage” to begin in 3…2…1. I am so thankful that we have a rational, reasonable man sitting in the Oval Office. This move is way overdue, but any time is a good time. I’m sure there will be some fireworks in Miami over this, but tough darts. Win an election, and you guys get to decide. Obama won twice.
“It’s never worked before - but if we keep trying it eventually it will!” is the sort of the heart of the conservative dogma
The hyperbole against this is laughable when considering we’re the ones that were torturing people in Cuba…
The hypocrisy of trying to use an embargo to overthrow a communist government while China is our third largest trading partner (after Canada and Mexico) should not require comment. Worse, it has allowed a small community within a swing state to hold inordinate influence over US policy to no one’s benefit. Time to move on.
Cue GOPers/Teatrolls blabbering about needing to “give the isolation policy a chance to work something something Dem POTUSes have fucked it up all along and prevented it from succeeding and we need to stay the course because eventually the result will be different if we just keep doing the same thing over and over.”
You bet! I traveled to Cuba, legally with a study license, several yard ago and the main thing the families coming in to the airport had brought with them were giant boxes of toilet paper: the US had embargoed toilet paper from being exported to Cuba by US companies.
A lot of American companies will be quite happy at the end of the embargo. Not that the GOPers will acknowledge that it will help their corporate friends.
True that… engagement is the superior strategy.
Obama tenga huevos, otra vez. Marvillosa!
This may become Rubio’s Waterloo. He will come across as the snot nosed little prick that he is when he struts his smarmy self to whine about Obama’s action. Too bad, I was looking forward to seeing his ass kicked in 2016…
Marco who?
Ileana Ros-who?
Ted who?
Sí, se puede!
Yes, it’s great having community organizer as Prez – someone who’s more comfortable negotiating a solution than bombing his way into one.
