Discussion: Obama: GOP Argument That Voters Should Decide SCOTUS Is 'Puzzling'

Discussion for article #247570

Reid needs to completely stop all of the Senate’s business this year under the rubric if the Republicans can not do their jobs, so can the Democrats gum up the works.

Make McTurtle the worst Senate leader of all time, a title he well deserves!

Shorter for McConnell.

Reasoning with these clowns is hopeless, given their abject determination to disparage the legitimacy of BHO as POTUS. They’re locked into that gameplan for the duration, regardless of whether it’s working or not.

Whether the country is willing to listen to reason is another story. They elected him convincingly two times, so the GOP gameplan is obviously without merit. Hammer THAT home and you win this battle, Mr. President.

Nope. The Democrats must not sink to their level. They need to continue to do the business of the Senate – and in fact frequently make motions to do the tasks that should be done, but the Republicans won’t let happen (e.g., meet with Obama’s SCOTUS nominees), to drive home who is actually doing the work of the people.

The moment the Dems participate in the obstruction of government, we give the GOP ammunition.

And there it is. Alleluia! Bout time. I would have thought any one of the Democratic congress persons would have made this statement long ago, but I think I actually like it better coming from the big guy himself. Now it needs to be repeated until the false narrative is replaced. Or until hell freezes over. Whichever.

I almost love the way Obama talks about the republicans in office as if they are acting reasonable…almost. What I’d really like is if just called them out on their bullshit.

Republicans… the law is iron clad and we follow it to the letter…

just the rules are flexible depending on income, color or our particular whim at the moment…

Republicans today have an amazing capacity to self-inflict long-term damage when pursing a near-term objective - in this case, hoping to preserve a conservative Supreme Court. The first big result of their incessant intransigence will be Trump’s nomination. The second will be President Hillary Clinton nominating a younger and more liberal judge, who will be confirmed by a Democratic-majority Senate.

How embarrassing. The President of the United States has to spell it out to elected GOP members of the United States Senate what the U. S. Constitution says.

“The American people should decide,” Mitch McConnell.

This is the same party that is doing their best to replace their nominee for president, Donald Trump, the one the people have voted for. Priceless.

I see the comments program gremlins are still alive and well.

Me, too. My guess is he’s trying not to sound too judgmental to that sliver of Americans who really do decide most national elections – the elusive (real) independent voters. Right now, it appears they’re on his side of this fight and on the side of returning the Senate to the Democrats – and he wishes to keep it that way.

No puzzle, The GOP is full of crap, as always.

Great Posts (you and DickWeed).

My feeling is that Mr. Obama will leave office allowing the GOP the maximum opportunities to hang themselves

One might imagine the shredded GOP tatters might want a summer distraction from Trumpzilla’s further rampages…

This is tangential. With Trump’s election to President listed as a greater (or equal) threat to the world than global terrorism, it is imperative that this man not get the Nomination.

(1) His campaign in GETTING the Nomination is damaging to the extreme on so many levels

(2) Many analysts assert that unforeseen events in the General could turn weak-minded people to vote for Trump

(3) My entire professional life has been spent in analyzing dictators who assumed power legally

Thank you. Yeah, it’s almost like putting candy out on a sidewalk in summertime to attract ants – it’s always a given they’ll show up, it’s just a matter of time. In this case, those ants started showing up even before the wrapper was opened. President Obama has their number – yet the vast majority of them don’t even realize it – and their number is painted right on their foreheads … in black paint.

They are throwing EVERYTHING against the wall to see what sticks…First off was the ‘Biden Rule’…next up ‘Let the people decide’ (whoever THAT might be…GOP people I assume) then it was the ‘Obama filibustered’…maybe TPM should keep a running SCOTUS EXCUSES tally to see what crap they come up with next.

Not only did they re-elect him in 2012, they did so after he’d made his two Supreme Court appointments – signaling that they trust his judgment on nominees.
