Discussion for article #235551
So why is she wrong?
Sure, this is good for us, just like Clinton told us about NAFTA.
Hey Obama, who the fuck can dig into the facts when your narrow ass is keeping them under tighter wraps than classified security materials? What a scam. This will be railroaded through, with this sonofabitch as the engineer cranking up the engine.
No wonder so many voters have dropped out of the process. Resistance is futile when the party that’s offered as the choice for people who work for a living is nothing but a tool for the oligarchy, emboldened to the point they can get away with this shit in broad daylight without retribution by the rank-and-file loyalists for whom these stooges can do no wrong.

In terms of domestic policy, this is the worst thing Obama has ever done or proposed to do. Was a secret agreement made? Did he sell his soul (and the soul of the Democratic Party) in order to get enough cash to be reelected?
ROTFLMAO!!!
Or in Jon Stewart words:
NAFTA was good for us - just because you don’t understand the pretty simple concept of comparative advantage doesn’t mean the rest of us are equally in the dark. The problem over the past few decades has not been economic growth - economic growth has been fantastic - its been the failure of governments to ensure that wealth is distributed in a somewhat equitable manner, so all that additional wealth has become focused in the hands of a few.
Now, that being said, what’s concerning about the TPP is that we don’t really know what’s in it. Obama (and here in Canada, Harper) can’t expect us to simply trust his judgement on a major international agreement like this. Its outrageous.
Not this time Mr Prez, your the one who is wrong.
The idea of corporate impunity…if this is within the boundaries of this agreement, the agreement is wrong.
Corporations are beholden to stockholders. If a company doing business in Florida were to be responsible for the destruction of its shoreline–and still managed to triple its profits, the company would be hailed as a smashing success.
To its stockholders.
The problem in the the good old US of A is that this simple concept is not fully grasped beyond its obvious potential for cynics and comedians. It MEANS that their potential for “lawlessness” is only bound by the Rule of Law
When making a case as a lawyer, you should:
- Argue the facts, if the facts are on your side. If not
- Argue the law, if the law is on your side. If not,
- Argue fairness, if fairness is on your side. If not,
- Make shit up.
Where does claiming to have “dug into the facts” rank on this flow chart, Mr. President?
I admire Warren’s strong voice on progressive issues. That said, it’s one thing I’ve learned over the course of several years with Obama as president; many attack his ideas and plans and then it usually turns out that he was right.
I am 56 years old. I remember the pre-NAFTA days when there where dozens of factories in the town I grew up in. Making everything from computers to cash registers, stereo components, calculators. They are all gone now, and America is much poorer, and weaker because of it. I don’t trust the TTP trade deal for one moment
I said this before in another diary and I’ll say it again:
TPP is VERY popular on the left-wing blogs however the vast majority of Americans don’t know of it. Or, don’t care. This issue MUST get out to the general public at large and resonate with them. If they don’t speak out, it’ll end up much like the whole NSA issue.
Average Americans have to get vocal about this and one of the major ways that can be done is through a really strong showing from workers/labor. This can’t just be a Leftist issue; it’s gotta be a workers issue. Without that, this deal is a forgone conclusion.
Oh, and prepare to see some fancy footwork from HRC regarding this subject.
I’m in the same age range as you and I can tell you, it’s not just manufacturing; it’s also administrative "White Collar’ work as well that’s been affected.
This is something I would like to read more about. I know Warren has some really specific problems with the deal and I saw an interview yesterday where the President said he would address each of the progressive criticisms point by point, but Chris Matthews didn’t follow up.
Maybe this would be a good topic for a couple of the longform TPM articles if the editors can pull themselves away from longform articles about the different micro brews drunk by 20 somethings in New York and Boston.
.
Way to take the high road, dood.
Come on, Trippin, tell us what you really think.
Obama said its not being kept under wraps. Sanders and Warren claim it is. Since the progressive press doesn’t want to answer the question, I guess am going to have do my own research on the subject.
The president argued the facts extensively, argued fairness, and the law. He spoke for nearly half an hour addressing each of the points liberals are most concerned about. One statement from an hour long discussion on a subject doesn’t capture the entirety of the discussion.
